April 4th from SJPDP - May 5, 2017 - Complete!
Hi everyone,

I am arriving in SJPDP on the night of April 2nd, and am going to start my camino on April 4th. I'll likely sleep in an albergue on the night of April 3rd, but wouldn't mind getting one last good sleep in a decent hotel on April 2nd (especially since I'll be jet lagged as well). I'll also have a big suitcase (which I'm going to ship to Santiago on April 3rd), so it's likely easier in a hotel.

Can anyone recommend any hotel that's fairly central (close to Pilgrim's office and/or post office) that's reasonably priced for my first night?

Thanks!

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

€149,-
A selection of Camino Jewellery
The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
That's an interesting idea. Just curious why you would recommend that though? Cheaper?

Because you stated 'late night arrival' and 'jet lag' ... There is no point dragging yourself backwards through a hedge so you can collapse in SJPdP for the night.

my accumulated whizz dumb says get off the road before 6 pm ... find a place to stay while there is light ... get supper early enough that you don't end up closing the place. Get some sleep. No stress about making the last train etc.

You will find the alburgues in SJPDP quite nice, this time of year the hosts are coming back from time off or it is very quiet, they are very nice. Yet I can sleep thru a lot, if you are a light sleeper it will be a journey. Some find a way to sleep, others abandon the Alburgues.
I think you will be safe from worry about making a reservation in April, many places to stay there.

If you arrive in SJPdP without a reservation go to the Pilgrim Office for help in finding a place for the night. The SJPdP Pilgrim Office is located on the camino at 39 rue de La Citadelle.

The office is open every day and in season from early in the morning until late at night ie after the arrival of the last bus/train. The helpful multi-lingual volunteers can provide you with a Credential and stamp if needed, as well as a list of major albergues and current weather/ trail conditions.

They can also help locate a bed/bunk for the night. They keep an up to the minute list of all available spaces in albergues as well as regular tourist facilities and will telephone to find you a space.

Most importantly the office is a great spot to meet/ greet other pilgrims.
...Do plan to stop and chat!

agreed...no point in getting to SJPdP at night if you don't have to
