Easy Jet had a flight from CDG to Biarritz. It was way cheaper and way faster than the train. Just one flight per day, early morning.

But is is STILL EasyJet, with all the inherent hassles that entails. I prefer NOT to start a Camino with this sort of stress and anxiety.

IMHO, my advice is to take the "Le Bus Direct" from CDG to Gare Montparnasse, a TGV direct to Bayonne, and the TER #62 train to St. Jean Pied de Port.

It sounds worse than it is. The TGV ride is a treat and very comfortable. They hold the last TER train of the day from Bayonne to SJPdP to coincide with late arrivals from the Paris TGV. The Les Bus Direct from CDG to Gare Montparnasse runs every 30 minutes from directly outside the baggage claim area, and the ride takes about one-hour, depending on traffic.

Overall, and in my experience from two such journeys, each segment is relaxed, and the connections are easy to make, if you plan an early morning arrival at CDG.

We took the early morning TGV from Gare Montparnasse to Bayonne but found on arrival at Bayonne that there was a train strike and no trains running from Bayonne to St Jean PdP. The TGV was very comfortable. In Bayonne we had to find a bus that would take us on to St Jean PdP. Not hard to find when you approach the helpful locals. We eventually arrived at St Jean PdP at the same time and place that the train would have delivered us.

Since we will be arriving from an overnight flight we opted for TGV from CDG Terminal 2 to Bordeaux to Bayonne and then the local train to SJPdP. It cost us 187.00 CAD for first class. However, on the way back we are taking a commuter train to Ourense and then a 19 hour bus ride with IberoCoach. Again, total cost is approx 150.00CAD

I took a TGV train from Gare Montparnasse to Biarritz. I arrived there too late for a train to SJPP, so we used the Bourricot shuttle. They're very helpful, and they picked up some other pilgrims too, so we all shared the cost.

I know that a lot of people use rome2rio.com, but I am not a fan of it. When I was looking for a train from Paris to Bayonne, rome2rio did not list all of the available trains, including the one that I wanted and ultimately bought a ticket for on https://en.voyages-sncf.com/en/

A very reliable site that does seem to compile all of the train options is Trainline.eu. They are the old Captain Train, I believe, and have expanded beyond their original scope. Their payment system is easy, and you can find clear information about how to retrieve your tickets on arrival via the machines or the ticket windows. I can recommend the iDTGV cars - the Zen option is pleasant (you could've heard a pin drop) and if you have the time, an overnight in Montparnasse is a very nice break to rest before moving on (creperies, hammam, Tour Montparnasse and stores for last-minute items, patisseries, museums, a hike around Paris.....). Unless you take the train right out of CDG as others have said above, more trains leave out of Gare Montparnasse (their station for most of the Southbound trains).

Bourricot Express is a very good service also, and Caroline can be counted on for reliable information about going up into the Pyrenees via the Napoleon. She is a mountain guide.

We got the train from Paris, changing in Bayonne and then the local train to St Jean de Pied de Port. Easy. We prebooked the ticket for the whole journey.

From Montparnasse station. That was also easy to get to on the underground from our hostel in Montmartre. There are several sites you can book on. You want one that lets you print the tickets yourself. We had to pay extra to get the tickets sent but in hindsight we could have used a different site.

Air France first thing in the morning to Biarritz / Bayonne, train or shared ride to St Jean, you'll be there before mid-morning and have the day to explore St Jean. Highly recommend it!
