How do I sell my hostal ??!!

Hoping for any suggestions... I managed to fulfil that dream so many of us had, and with a group of others bought and refurbished a small hostal / albergue just north of Zamora on the Camino de la Plata. It's a great place, perfectly located, worked extremely well with a group of people living there during 2017, and now, miserably, I am forced to sell it. But how ??? ! What's a good way to reach people who might be interested in such a place ? Any ideas ( or,come to that, offers.. !.) would be extremely welcome here or send a PM/Conversation. Many thanks. A local real estate agency. They will give you the most exposure. I suspect a sale will take a while. The San Javier building in Astorga has been for sale for years at about 400,000E.

Just curious, is that the place in Riego del Camino? Asking as I had contact with one of the women who was involved with the project.

There have been numerous threads about people interested in starting up or taking over an albergue so here is one place to do so.

One might contact the various pilgrim associations in Europe; the British and Germans especially. Plus, post a sign, and let nearby fellow lodgings (upstream and downstream) know.

It's a bargain - small but perfectly formed, 60,000 euros, somewhat negotiable, several bedrooms, big terrace, walled garden, perfect Camino location in terms of stages from Zamora and just before the split to Astorga or over to Ourense. Haven't been to your place Tim although I stayed in muni in Riego this spring but I remember photos from the webpage when you opened the place. It's always kind of hard for us Caminoists when we hear a place is shutting down whatever the reason is. I hope you will sell it for a good price and to a good person that will continue the mission!

The woman I had contact with did give me your email address so don't worry, the information was passed on. I didn't follow for personal reasons.

I've stayed in the very basic municipal in this tiny hamlet three times and survived haha (a roof and a shower is all I require although it could use a facelift!) The only bar in town on the other hand seems to be deteriorating fast, during each visit a step closer to ruin (2011, 2014 and 2016).

I found Riego a good location for an albergue but not everyone can walk the 33 km from Zamora, most stop before. I then continued on to Tabara (instead of Granja) but on the way I took the detour to visit the lovely ruins of the oldest Monasterio Cisterciense in Spain which is close to Granja.

Thought about renting it out for a season? This might be an idea while looking for a buyer.

The small albergue looks quite cozy so I hope that you find someone who loves the Camino to take over.

This year when we went for a dinner there I warned my companion and a French guy not to go to the toilet there before they finish their meal. After the supper they were very thankful for the advice
But main course was half of a chicken!!!

Oh my, you are brave! The first time I had a clara and a pathetic cheese bocadillo, the second time I only went for a clara and the third? Well I passed! Luckily there is a tiny store if you are lucky to find it. The hospitalera will tell you where it is.

She didn't mention anything about the store. And when the shop truck came (apparently only on Wednesdays) she talked to the driver and told him that every time he should also stop in front of the muni albergue and honk for the pilgrims.

It's hidden and you have to ring a doorbell for the owner to open up, at least this was the case the last time I was there.

Ahhh, Riego del Camino. The memories! I too stayed in the municipal, in 2013, and didn’t even know there was a private one. I also ate in the bar, it was a pretty bad experience, but I felt sorry for the woman serving us. She had a very sad life story. And yes, there is a store . I had to check my notes, but it is at number 10 on one of the central streets. Everyone in town knows about it. The owners told me they took down the sign after two robberies.

Make your own sign and put it right beside or over the main door, "Venta - Solo Peregrinos. Ver propietario."

When talking to people about the property, keep the conversation upbeat, promoting that it is a lifestyle that you love deeply and am happy with, but your life is now taking you in a new direction, and that is why the property is up for sale.

Stopped in at Casa Riego last September,the girls were very welcoming,had a cuppa and a chat but it was too early for me to stop. Gorgeous place though,they showed me round. if I didn't have my grandsons in Australia I would be tempted.

The albergue is indeed basic. The bar is famously the worst in northern Spain, and the locals' nickname for the owner is ' La Bruja'. The village people are delightful. The wildlife is amazing. The house is still for sale... Many thanks for the suggestions / ideas / contacts : two people following up already from here, and two more from networks. Hooray for the Camino.

Thanks for that update, @johakyu. Is the alcaldesa still the alcaldesa and still the hospitalera? Do you know any of the details about the fight over the monte or the funding dispute with other villages?

In brief - the 'alcaldesa' never was the alcaldesa, and there is no such office ! Riego belongs to the next village. I'm afraid she elected herself to a non-existent glory. I'm also afraid that the money for the 'municipal albergue' has never quite made its way from her reception as far as the municipal coffers... So the funding dispute is the other way round, Manganeses wondering where a few thousand euros a year is going. And there was never a Riego Ayuntamiento to which the montes might be attached, so... The rich imaginative tapestry of village life eh ?
