How? from Biarritz or Hendaye to Pamplona/Roncesvalles

NB Kevin

Member
On the basis of excellent advice from Sil, we intend to begin our camino in Roncesvalles on or about the 25th of August. We are taking a morning train from Paris that arrives in Biarritz at 12:30. From Biarritz, what is the best/fastest way to get to Pamplona?

Is it possible to reach Pamplona from Biarritz by 18:00 to catch the evening bus to Roncesvalles?

Is there a bus from Biarritz/Hendaye to San Sebastien, and from there to Pamplona?

I'm very grateful for any help.
Thanks,

Kevin

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

€83,-
Another option would be to take the train from Bayonne to St. Jean and then Express Burricot taxi from there to Roncesvalles. There is a train at 14:37. Here is some information from a previous post regarding taxi service from St. Jean:

The lady who runs Express Burricot is Caroline

Here is her info:

Hello, I can take people from St Jean to Roncesvalles. I do it every day, generally in the morning. The price depends on how many people I pick up. So it is 9 euros per person if I have at least 3 people. But if you are alone, it is 27 euros, if you are 2, it is 13.5 euros for each one and if you are 3 or more, it will be 9 for each one. And I try to make group with different people who call me. I hope you understand, because my English is not so marvellous!!

Biarritz to Roncesvalles

Hi Kevin,
Jeff's suggestion is probably the quickest and cheapest way.
Its a 1 ½ - 2 hr hour train journey from Biarritz to St Jean and costs about 10 euro.
You will easily get a taxi over to Roncesvalles.

You could also take two trains and a bus.

Biarritz to Irun - ± 35 minutes (http://www.sncf.com) ± 7 euro
and then Irun to Pamplona - ± 2hrs (http://www.renfe.es) 15 euro

and then the 6pm bus to Roncesvalles 4.50 euro
(or a taxi ± 45 Euro)

Bendigáis,

The 9th edition the Lightfoot Guide will let you complete the journey your way.
The quickest way is to stop at Bayonne (not Biarritz), train to StJPdeP and a taxi to Roncesvales where you begin.

Buen Camino, wish I coud go again.

Thanks for your advice, friends.
We now have a plan in place: arr. in Bayonne from Paris at 12:09, dep. for SJPP at 14:37, arr. St. Jean at 15:50. We will arrange for transportation from there to Roncesvalles with Caroline at Express Buricott.
We wish you could all be with us on the Camino and you will be, if only in spirit.
I think Sil will be somewhere on the Camino at that time.

I will finalize plane/train reservations over the next couple of days, and will let you know when we are locked in.

Thanks again,

Kevin
