How to get from Bilbao to Roncesvalles

I am hoping to start my first Camino from Roncavalles on 19th or 20 th Oct .I need to know how best to get to Roncesvalles from Bilbao? Many thanks

Welcome to the forum GPJ13

You have several buses from Bilbo to Iruña/Pamplona at the buss station ( Termibus). From Iruña/Pamplona you have a bus which takes you up to Orreaga/Roncesvalles.

Bilbo - Iruña/Pamplona buses at - 10 am, 1 pm, 3:30 pm, 6pm and 8:30 pm . Company - La Union . trip takes 1hr 30 mins.

Bus - Iruña/Pamplona - Orreaga/Roncesvalles bus at 6pm Monday to Friday , Saturday at 4pm . Trip takes 1hr 15 mins.

Take a bus to Pamplona, then bus or taxi to Roncesvalles. There are two buses each day to Roncesvalles at 1400 and 1730. Another bus line as one bus each day, but none on Sunday:

I get a schedule showing buses Pamplona to Roncesvalles daily at 0930 1000 1500 1600 and 1800. There is also a direct bus that runs at 1800 weekdays.

GPJ13, we are planning the same start for October 2014. Did you find the buses to be a good choice? Any problems or additional info you can provide?

It worked out perfectly .The bus goes from the bus station near the citadel and takes around and hour. It goes on different time depending on day .I am not sure about Sundays. If you have time stop to look around Pamplona its lovelyi.If you are there with time before bus leaves. On way down from Roncavalles I stayed in Larossana Not impressed better to stop at town before or move swiftly past.
