Hello everyone. Having walked most of the CF this spring, I am looking forward to returning to northern Spain soon. The Camino Aragones catches my attention (thank you all for the posts on this forum), but I a wondering, how to reach Somport to start this Camino? Suggestions and advice would be appreciated!

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
From which side of the border? If you are travelling from France SNCF run a combination of train and bus from Pau to Somport - usually changing at Oleron Ste Marie or Bedous though some buses run all the way from Pau itself. If you are travelling from Spain RENFE have a couple of trains per day from Madrid and Zaragoza to Canfranc where the line now ends.

Just returned as I started by camino this year in Lourdes. Took a flight to Madrid, then a flight to Toulouse in France. Train to Lourdes. (Subliminal suggestion that you may want to start in Lourdes). Walked to St Jean Pied de Port on Vie Piemonte. When you get to Oloran Ste-Marie, you can pick up the Camino Aragones. As Brudypus mentions you may be able to get a bus to Oloron Ste-Marie, etc, If you want to start from Lourdes, it is approx. 112km/70 miles, From Oloron Ste-Marie, 55km/35 miles.

Here is a link as well:

I enjoyed the walk from Toulouse to Oloron Ste Marie.

The 9th edition the Lightfoot Guide will let you complete the journey your way.
Bonjour, Dougwilliams55,

The hike from Oloron-Sainte-Marie to Somport is splendid: The scenery is panoramic, woods + meadows are lush with an abundance of wild flowers. Bird song accompanies the day. There are few pilgrim on the trail and a choice of places to stay at the end of the day. I set off from Carcassonne in May...

Bon chemin!

To me, it is very clear: find your way to make it to Zaragoza, then take the Canfranc train in Zaragoza, it is the most beautiful, scenic route, absolutely worth it, and arriving in the overwhelming station in Canfranc is like taking a trip in history.
Right outside the Canfranc station you will find a bus stop with fairly frequent buses to Somport.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Years back we flew from Madrid to Pamplona and took the Pamplona-Jaca bus. Train, bus or walk up to Somport from Jaca.

Hi - I've been waiting to book 2 June from Santiago dC to Madrid - finally the tickets are out! Funnily enough the luxury seats were cheaper than economy seats, so I took one.
I’m planning to send to Santiago a smaller bag with things I need for the flight, extra days pre/post Camino, and whatever else I decide that I won’t need. I could send it from Roncesvalles...
