I got into Santiago de C. today on a flight. I am now awaiting a bus to O Cebreiro to continue where I finished last year. Im in this beautiful little church on the outskirts as I want to avoid seeing the cathedral and old town untill I finish my camino there in 7 days time. It is very quite here, and not many out and about.all who are are masked including me..anyway I have a tough ole night ahead of me as my 3 hour bus does not reach Pedrefita do Cebreiro untill about 1 am! Too late to get a bed but I was thinking of bedding down either in the porch of the church or some nook for a few hours .So it will be an interesting start for me.20200918_171922.jpg

Identify that church, please? Over the years I've been pretty good about inspecting the churches I pass along The Way, but I don't recognize it.
I want back to that church it was locked,I could not see any name. It is close enough to santiago central bus station and nearby was a camino marler

I believe it is San Caetano. Only 300 metres walking from the busstation.

when you get to Piedrafita I am pretty sure you can bed down inside the entryway of the church there, or go down the back of the municipal building (big garage behind the church) and there are nooks and crannies under cover there, where they set up the mercado. It's raining cats and dogs up there, hope things clear up for you!

Got into Padrifita do Cabreiro last night by bus @ 2am .Walked up to O Cabreiro in the dark and slept in porch of Santa Maria Church, it was cold and I had only a micro sleeping bag with my rain cape to lay on. I slept in my cloths and managed to get some broken sleep.
I was awoken to the plesent sound of early perigrinos . I had welcome caffe con leche in a bar and met some perigrinos. I would say about 40 stayed in O Cebreiro last night ,some spanish and fellow europeans.
I walked to Tricastala 21 km. It was a lovely day,it was great to meet others. I enclose pics.

Today I did about a 35 k walk in beautiful Galicia. After a cafe con lacha at a bar I was on the way at about 7.45. It was raining steadily for about 8 km and when it stopped a wonderful organic ,bar for want of a better word appeared it was wonderful and a donation breakfast was laid out which had a varied selection. I include pics of it .met some fellow travelers there but not a lot, mostly from europe. Thwn it was onto Sarria,by the way I took the shorter route. I didnt like Sarria and anyway I had intended to press on for another 17 km to this wonderful alburgue Mercadoiro, about 5 km before Portomarín. It has its own bar that does a great meal. The couple that own it are very helpful.

You must have taken the rain with you - it's been glorious sunshine here in Ireland! I was out on the Cavan Way today making another leg of my camino route to reach Dublin...but your photos are making me look forward to reaching more "established" camino routes - Buen camino!

Stopped at the same place in 2018. It dos not appear to have changed much. We were happy to pat the cats, and spouse ate a boiled egg, but I took only a banana for my "donation" as I was uncertain about their ability to wash anything. The people were certainly kind enough, and the "aseos" were an adventure. I might have had a coffee from a thermos??
Thanks for the photos... I remember the place very well but had not been able to remember on what day we stopped there. Now I recall the day that much more clearly as a result of your post.

Totally agree. Mercadoiro is a gem.
I participated in a wonderful six-language alfresco dinner there, and the sleeping space was nice. Good preparation for the trek through Portomarin and on to Palas de Rei.

About a 30 km hike today from Palas de Ris through beautiful Gallician country with a good amount of bars open to cater for the lesser number of perigringos. I would guess maybe about 80 walkers I saw today, about 50% Spanish and the rest europeans. I think in covid times that there is an extra bit of camaradee amoungst the perigringos. We seem to be well recieved in the towns and villages and walkers respect the locals by being masked and keeping distance.
So far I have been blest with excellent alborgues, spotless clean, kind and friendly and helpful owners. Tonight I am at hostal san francisco in Arzúa. Prices are usually 10 to 12 euro.
Only 2 days to Santiago now with under 40km left.

Mate, just to say, having done several caminos, that the day (or two if you like) from Fin to Mux was up there as a very pretty and pleasant day if you have the time and inclination. Enjoy and BC

Hahaha, if you don't splurge now, you never will!
If you have time and weather is kind, I would go Fisterra first, but definitely go on to Muxia for the final day of an epic journey that you have undertaken in dubious times. I'd also say follow your heart when you reach that famous roundabout where you have to choose between the left fork (to Fisterra) or the road fork (to Muxia)
Tip:
I can recommend Casa Manolo in the Plaza de Cervantes for a great meal in Santiago, assuming it's still open for business

I finished my camino yesterday with a lovely relaxed pace covering the last 20k. For me it was a day of slower pace and time to reflect. On the outskirts of Santiago I met a catalonial group of 5 and I walked along with them ,they were my guides to the cathedral. I was overcome with emotion in the square of the cathedral,to have arrived and to meet others who I saw,or talked to or walked with was lovely. A camino friend took me to the credential office and I was in and out in about 15 minutes,Again more tears of joy and greatfulness.
I also picked up my credentials for Fisterra & Muxia which I hope to begin tomorrow.

Seems like only yesterday you suddenly said: I’m off then! I must have a look for that book title, mine was given away long years ago...
May all go well till you are safely home and telling your stories to whoever is waiting to hear them.

Enjoy the special unforgettable day in Santiago de Compostela. Fisterra and Muxia will be ready and waiting for you should you decide to go there, but take time to explore a bit of Santiago once you've rested a bit.

Can someone tell us a little about Paudie Moloughney RIP? @timr @NualaOC

Well done @roamingpaddy ....make time to experience the sound of the sea at Muxia.
@NualaOC @donalomahony @roamingpaddy

Paudie came from Littleton in Tipperary and was a priest of St Patrick's Missionary Society, known locally as the Kiltegan Fathers. I am too. He worked in Brazil and then Nigeria, and then Brazil again, before he returned to work in Ireland in 2013. Sadly he died in 2015. He was a great person, larger than life, full of energy and enthusiasm. He loved walking and had walked from his Irish home to Santiago on one occasion and had also walked the Appalachian trail. He did not die on the Camino, but some of his friends and erstwhile travelling companions thought it an appropriate place to put a memorial.
He loved the culture of whatever country he lived in, and especially the music, dance and sport of his own country. I was at this funeral and the church was full and so was a marquee in the grounds and many hundreds of people followed it around the world. We miss him greatly. RIPPaudie page 1.jpg

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
I recognized the photo of the sculpture at Monte de Gozo and I thought I remembered a plaque on the base in honour of a priest. I had never heard of him, but at the time, I thought he must be pretty special to have the memorial there. I searched my archives and found the photo of his monument/plaque from when I walked into Santiago in 2017. He sounds like a wonderful person, missed by many, I am sure.

It took me just a bit over an hour as it was dark but I had small torch. The path goes through the woods another by road.I took the woods one as shorter, after a bit I was getting worried as I was finding it so so tough, then I realised I still had mask on since the bus :) then dogs started barking as they picked up my scent and I got a bit worried as i was thinking, are dogs let out at nighttime? Then a taught came to me,would there be Bears here? as i have read recently of bears being re introduced to Gallicia. After awhile the path joined the road and it was easier and it was a lovely starry night and the stars were spectacular up there..

As your heart was going into your mouth while you were climbing (masked!), so was mine while I was reading, wonderIng would you make it in one piece...

Congratulations on reaching Santiago , enjoy the next section .
