Thinking of walking in Aug 2014
Hi

I have 3 weeks holidays from August 15th until September 6th .
I am thinking of doing some of the Camino for that period .
I can book a flight to North Spain or Southern France and start from somewhere nearby.
Does anyone know if your bag can be carried from hostel to hostel , or does such a service exist ?
Any ideas of what stretch might be appropiate ?
I don't care whether or not I finish in Santiago .

Thanks

Brian

Good for you!
Both France and Spain are great. It is up to you. The French side may be less crowded, but it is more expensive.
I don't know about carrying services in France. In Spain, besides Jacotrans, you will discover in most albergues (especially in the privates ones) lists of business or taxi drivers that offer their services. On the other side, if you manage to limit your backpack to 8-9 kg, you can carry your belongings without great effort, save some euros and have greater personal autonomy (I mean, not a fixed scheduled or lodging). These options have been extensively discussed in this forum, with pros and cons.

Hi We are doing from Leon to Santiago starting 16 August to 5 September. We fly to Madrid, get train next day to Leon and start day after walking. Hopefully we will aim to get up at 6am every morning to walk before it gets absolutely scorching! May see you.

Thank You very much Shauna , Felipe Y Falcon, It was my first time on the forum yesterday and I don't have too much time to get organised , so I didn't get to read all of the older threads.

Go raibh maith agaibh, gracias and thank you again.

Hi Brian,

I walked from Sarria to Santiago last year and from St. Jean Pied de Port to Sarria finishing end of June this year.

My suggestion would be to fly with Ryanair to Biarritz and start at St. Jean. In 3 weeks you will really get a good flavour of the Camino. Then you can continue onwards on a subsequent trip.

Best of luck, buen Camino

Hey Brian,
Conas ata tu? I also had three weeks last year, started my Camino in Leon and walked to Finisterre, 17 walking days. I flew from Dublin to Santander with Ryanair, overnighted there and took the bus the following morning to Leon. I had prebooked the bus ticket on www.alsa.es a couple of weeks before. The bus takes about 5 hours, you change at Oviedo and it costs about €20. Very comfortable and scenic journey. I got the Camino bug from that experience and can fortunately free up enough time this year to do it in its entirety from SJPP. Another website you might find useful is www.gronze.com, its in Spanish but paste the link into Google translate to get it in English. You will see details of all the stages there and it may help you make a more informed decision before you start. Another useful website is www.expressbourricot.com, if you chose to fly into Biarritz they organise shared taxis to SJPP and also luggage transport. Have a great Camino and greetings from Kerry.
Regards,
Gerard.

Can i make a suggestion? How about the Portugees camino from Porto to Santiago and then from santiago to Finisterre and muxia. This walk can easily be done in 3 weeks.
Aprox 10 days from Porto to Santiago and from Santiago to finisterre and muxia 3 to 5 days. Leaving time to relax and have a restday here and there.

Naturewise it is just as great as the Frances and the route to Finisterre is (imo) even nicer.
Pilgrim/socialwise you will also have a great time. Plenty of pilgrims who walk this route, so also on that front it will be wonderfull.

Other pluspoints: Better food!!! and the portugees part of the walk is cheaper then the spanish part of the walk (and the Frances)

Food for thought? :)

And there is also a service on the portugees route that brings your backpack from a to b.

If this isn't an option, then i would probably start either in SJPdP and walk the first 3 weeks, or i would walk the last three weeks and finish in Santiago or Finisterre.
Just a middle part i would not do....i think, but thats personal.
