I need to get from SDC to O Porto on Sunday July 17. I'm not having much success online for various reasons. Can anyone tell me what is the best way of getting there or at least steer me to an easier site. I have tried Alsa and Renfe and Alsa tells me they don't go to Porto and Renfe tells me that I have to go via Madrid and the duration of the trip will be 16 hours or so. rome2rio tells me that I can get a bus, a train or a mixture of bus and train all of which will get me there in under five hours. I'm a bit confused.

I took the Alsa bus from Santiago to Porto on Sunday in September 2015. It took about 4 hours. As suggested by others, wait until the summer schedule is published. We booked easily on their website.

In June 2015 I took a long distance bus from Santiago to Porto. I think it was ALSA and operated once a day leaving around 9am. From where it dropped us off in Porto we took a taxi to our pension. I bought my ticket a day or so before at the booth at the Pilgrims Office. Now that the office has moved, I am not sure if the bus/train ticket booth is available at the new location.

We just went to the bus station in S de C the day before we wanted to travel and bought tickets. The trip took 3 hours and was most enjoyable. Jacki.

Take the bus. We bought bus tickets at a bus station in Spain while walking our Portuguese camino. We caught the bus in Santiago and passed through Porto on our way to Lisbon. Train travel to Portugal required a train to the Spanish boarder and then walking across the boarder to catch a Portuguese train. Both systems were on incompatible schedules too. Porto like Lisbon is a rail and bus hub to the rest of Portugal. Our bus did stop in Porto to discharge and pick up passengers. I hope this helps. Buen Camino
