Were walking in 3 weeks and I’m pretty stoked that I finally found the shoes I will be using.
I have had a hard time of it as I wear a 14wide. It’s not an easy size to find in any shoe store so I have been ordering online and sending back as soon as I try them on. My wife thinks I’m nuts.
Shoes ordered, tried on and sent back:
Brooks Cascadia 14 (not wide enough. I was hoping for these to fit. I ran hundreds of miles in Brooks Ghost without a problem but these are way narrow)
Keen Targhee 14 ( not long enough)
Hoka OneOne 14 ( not wide enough)
Oboz Sawtooth 14w ( great fit all around. I really liked these shoes but when walking the cuff rubbed my ankle in a painful way)
Merrell MOAB Ventilator 14w ( the ankle cup was a bit large and it caused some slippage but I got used to it. Shoes fit great and we did a couple of 8 mile hikes through the mountains of North Carolina. The problem with these is that the rubber in the front started to separate. Merrell replaced them immediately after a text message with a picture. It made me worry they would not last and I doubt I will find any thing close to my size in Spain)
Solomen XA Pro 3D 14w (these are the shoes I’m going to wear. I have worn the waterproof non wide version for over a year now with no problems. The laces are nice and I will bring an extra pair in case of a break. The fit and quality is excellent)
New Balance 910v4. (These would be my next to order if the Solomons didn’t work out.
I’m also bringing a pair of ECCO Yucatan 13.5
My career was in the military and law enforcement and I have spent a lot of time on my feet. I know the importance of a good pair of shoes. I never thought it would be so difficult. I wore size 13 as a young man and it was much easier to buy shoes then.
If any person needs good wide shoes in size 14 check out the Solomen
