Not actually walking the Camino... More walking on it. The weather was looking good so we decided to take a long weekend in the Basque country.

We have an apartment in St Jean and we walked today up to the statue of the Virgin... Had our picnic... And we're walking back 😎

It feels good to be here... I couldn't stop grinning all morning ❤️

I've never walked the Valcarlos Route, which I'm sure has its merits.... But I'll never forget the first time I walked the Route de Napoleon up and over.... A transformative experience.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.

After three and a bit weeks from Le Puy with generally glorious weather during April, it was with great sadness that "going over the top" that we were in enveloping cloud with some wind not long after leaving Saint-Jean.

My "best" hill was passing through Las Herrerias on the way to La Faba and the pull up from there the next morning. While bulls in my part of the world are severely segregated from their feminine companion, I warmed to the sound of the "bull bell" (whether bovine or ovine) quite quickly and to the sight of the grazing fields extending upwards.

Kia kaha tatou (Y'all take care, now)

Our last day... I'm home again now. We had hoped to walk from Zarautz to Getaria, just as we had on the Norte in 2018 but when we arrived the path was so busy we decided that there were just too many folks here for us.

We know that we're lucky to be able to get away in these difficult days and of course, we do so knowing we must take precautions. One such precaution is to avoid crowded places... so sadly we made do with a picnic beside the sea... just us, a few fishermen and the beautiful deep blue sea.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
So nice to see these beautiful photos of the mountains and sea shore. I love it all and look forward to a time when we can go again. It is surprising that the del Norte was so crowded at this time...go figure! Glad you are safely home

That little section of the walk is a popular strolling route for tourists and locals alike... I think most pilgrims take this route but I don’t think it’s really part of the Camino? But... gosh it’s a beautiful footpath that runs between the two towns right along the ocean. I think if I lived there I’d walk it everyday ❤️

It is popular terrain for locals, from a decent drive's distance. I lived in Bilbao for a year, and we often took to the road to walk and swim...gosh, that was 20 years ago now!
