Time of past OR future Camino
Sept 8 to October 15, 2024
Unfortunately I’ve become too ill to continue—I have a flight from Madrid on Sept 19. Can anyone suggest a safe and quiet hotel in Madrid for tonight and tomorrow? I’m so sad I can’t Go on. I’ll return and finish in the future. Buen Camino to you.

Thank you.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
I have stayed several times at the Marriott Auditorium very near the airport. It’s a large hotel for business conventions. English spoken. Food available. Shuttle bus to airport. There are certainly cheaper options though. It it will have everything you need. Hope you feel better.

Fail to prepare? reduce your risk by buying this book full of practical info.
2nd ed.
I've stayed at Hotel Clement in Barajas a bunch of times on the night before my flight back home. It's clean, comfortable, has a mini-fridge... the things I like about it are 24 hr front desk that speaks English and can schedule a taxi for you anytime of the day, and it is right down the street from a Dia supermarket. It's also about a 10 minute walk from the Metro, though if I were sick I'd probably not even deal with that. I've never not been able to check in early... it is on a fairly busy street but with window closed (they have central ac/heat) it's no big deal.

Hope you feel better soon.

There are many hotels to choose from in Barajas. It is certainly my preferred place to stay with a no-hassle short trip to the airport terminal. I walked to the terminal last time but I suggest just get a taxi which I will do next time.

I stayed at Hotel Don Luis which was sort of budget at 90 Euros as a last minute booking and certainly fit-for-purpose. Probably Hotel Clement might be better but I just wanted to check in eat sleep get up and go to the airport.

Most places in Barajas will be better than your average albergue - no aspersions cast on albergues which are fine whilst walking.

All you wonderful helpers—it seems like there must be a big convention. Both are booked. Does anyone know a safe and quiet 2-star near the train station. I can walk there and my flight is later in the day on Thursday. Thank you.

Those I have stayed in were not 2* unfortunately.
Are you in a position to look on Booking dot com?
I see quite a few with vacancies, for 2 nights.
If you use the cost per night filter to set your budget.
I found a few at Euro100 or less per night for example.
And maybe set review score at 7+ or 8+
I generally find the reviews are quite accurate.

There were more in the city than near the airport.

Hopefully someone will come along shortly with a personal recommendation.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

I’ve stayed at Meliá Barajas Hotel several times. The hotel offers a free airport shuttle, is just minutes from the airport and is located in Barajas which feels like a small Camino Village. If you’re up for it, you can find cafes and restaurants within walking distance and if not feeling well, everything you need is available in the hotel.

I've had good luck searching for last-minute hotels in Madrid using the Hotwire platform. You can specify what level of hotel class you're looking for and the area within the city, and then after you book, it tells you the specific hotel. (You do know the price before you book.) Hotels put rooms on Hotwire when they're not booked close to the date, and they're at a pretty steep discount.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.

I stayed at NH Nacionale near the train station. It was good.

What a contrast to drop into the Grand Via from the Camino. Quite the contrast.
LOL you dont say!!! In my case I came to MAD from Finisterre.... Imagine "on top" of Grand Via and all that the "weather difference". From breezy coastal sea-smelling air to arid dry desert and pushing 100F....

So sorry about your mishap but that means that you just have to come back!!!!

I certainly will. Looking forward to it.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Theresa. So sad to hear that you're unwell😥.
You will recover and get well again.
The Camino has unfinished business with you and is waiting for you.

Hotel One next to Madrid Chamartin station. I got sick on the Primitivo in June and had to cut my Camino short also. I stayed at Hotel One for 4 nights while I trying to change my return flight to Boston.

We stay at Hostal Viky in Barajas. They are close to the airport, clean, and have a free shuttle. The town square is two blocks away for dinner. I hope you recover soon.

Hostel Central Palace Plaza de Oriente 2, 3º izquierda, Centro, 28013 Madrid, is in a nice neighbourhood right on the Metro with super friendly service in a safe location - I have stayed there as a solo traveller on 3 occasions & would definitely recommend it. If you do not want to take Public transport to the airport there are fixed rates for taxis in Madrid for airport transfers. I hope you get better soon.

I also stayed at the Senator Barajas last time. Has an airport shuttle and dining in the hotel. A pleasant neighborhood with some nice walking paths/parks and good restaurants close by. A little more expensive than I wanted, but it was last minute.

Hope you feel better soon!

Yes, easy to get too. Take the bus or train to the airport. Then take their shuttle to the hotel. A bit difficult to get their directly because it is not adjacent to a bus or train stop.

Hotel Chamartin, right at the train station. May be a little more that 2 star, but can’t beat the location
I second this recommendation. Extremely convenient as it is over the train station and I have stayed there three times.

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).

I was able to book something on Booking.com. What a contrast to drop into the Grand Via from the Camino. Quite the contrast. I’m set for my rest and thank you all for your help.
I am wishing you a prompt and full recovery. The Camino will be there when you are ready to resume it. Buen Camino 🙋‍♀️
