interupting camino?

Hi, I am writing this query with an unpleasant feeling on my right knee just after three days of walking. Climbing up and walking on same level is ok, but going downwards hurts. Funny, last autumn I had no problem with a heavier backpack.. Maybe I am just getting old J

Possible interuption, however, is not a tragedy in my case, since I originally planned to spend just about one week on the camino this year.

The problem is, that it seems to be difficult to find a practical way to get to Santiago de Compostela from where my plane takes off next wednesday (21th of March). Currently, I am in “La Bodega del Camino”, in Lorca, which is a very nice refugio indeed.. and surprisingly the cook speaks English! (I have not eaten yet, can not tell anything about his skills..)

Any experiences/suggestions regarding traveling from here to Santiago de Compostela?

Hei Janne,

I don't know the area where you are right now very well, but did a search on http://www.renfe.es for a station near you. I did find a station at "Lorca-Sutullena". Not sure if this is close to were you are, but....

... another option might be the bus... I know http://www.alsa.es have several buses nationwide, but not sure if they drive by your refuge.

I think the cook is your savior (for food and knowledge). He should know the area and travel options to Santiago. If you can get to a bigger town, use the two links above to schedule your travels.

Good luck and I hope your feet feel better soon!

Un saludo,
Ivar

Hi Janne

You will need to get to Estella bus station, not sure if there is a bus from Lorca. Here you can take a bus back to Pamplona (about 1 hour), and from Pamplona take the train to Santiago, changing at either Burgos or Leon.

There may be a bus from Estella that will go to Santiago, or at least Burgos or Leon.

By the way, I had a very pleasant lunch at La Bodega del Camino last year and stayed the night at the bar opposite.

Hi, the easiest (perhaps not the most pleasant) way to travel from Logrono to Santiago was by Alsa bus, which started 2.15 a.m. and was in Santiago about 11 hours later, 40+ euros. I think the bus originally started it's journey from somewhere east coast (maybe Barcelona?). The bus had no toilet, but stopped a couple times. I was not allowed to take my backpack in the bus cabin, so I couldn't use my snacks&drinks during the trip; a smaller hand baggage would have been a good idea..
