Iria /Padron variation

Bootless

New Member
Hi,
In June 2007 we'll be on our last leg from Le Puy to Santiago.
We're thinking of doing the Padron variation. My wife has the idea that we have to see "The Boat". We were told that it's a 40 km hike down and another 40 km hike back.

But we have no info on where to turn off and how to get back on to the main trail.

Any info, links, pointers, maps, itineraries, experiences appreciated.

TIA

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

What's in Padron is not the boat, but the rock to which the boat was supposedly tied, but there's dispute over that as well: http://www.galiciaguide.com/Padron-galicia-pedron.html

Padron is on the Camino Portugues (a north-south camino), which runs in Spain from Tui on the Portuguese border to Santiago. Padron is south and a little west of Santiago, which means that you would probably go into Santiago on the Camino Frances and then go "backwards"(south) on the Camino Portugues till Padron. I'm not quite sure how there could be a variation off the Camino Frances to take you to Padron.

Hi Bootless,

Here's a link a picture of the rock I took when I did the Camino Portugues last July:

The church and stone are interesting and significant, but more inspiring in my opinion, is the Road to Santiagueno Monte. A mini camino in it's self, it's an uphill walk to the spot where Saint James preached the gospel for the first time.

I don't have any information for you regarding how far/out of way it will be for your route, but I highly recommend paying Padron a visit. (For their pimientos alone!) I have more pics if you're interested in seeing more of the road to Santiagueno Monte....it's a oddly liminal place.

Bom Caminho,
