Is is possible to hitchhike from Pamplona to SJPPD?

Hi, we are a young couple on a tight budget. Flying into Barcelona, then taking train to Pamplona. Instead of taking bus and taxi to get to SJPPD to start our walk we were thinking of hitchhiking. Is this an ok idea? Do people still pick up hitchhikers?

A selection of Camino Jewellery
In 2007 we saw pilgrims hitching rides from Roncesvalles.
The L'Esprit du Chemin website suggests that you can hitch a ride to St Jean.

In 2005 my brother's hiking companion had knee problems, so tried hitchhiking most of the Camino after Pamplona. He was rarely successful. The fairly short trip from Pamplona with lots of pilgrims may be different. Good luck.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

€83,-
of course, and you are two together, and with the packs, and show those scallop shells .. good people pass all the time, smile and be patient ...

so glad you are going, even with money tight ..... I saw a young Spanish couple, dressed as Goths with packs and madly in love on that Roman bridge that is only a foot section at the middle .... they were on a tight budget and kept posing for each other .. were having a wonderful time .. showed me their sellos ... we stamped our own under that building arch, where the pad and stamp is left out ...

they were an utter joy to watch, those good young people ...

go, hitch, enjoy!

I have no idea on the luck you might or might not have by hitchhiking fra Pamplona to SJPP.
I am sure many are trying and my guess is few are lucky.

However this might be another option: http://www.expressbourricot.com/

It is not that expensive... - just note you will have to go all the way to SJPP and not change your mind and stop in Roncesvalles.... as she does not have a licens for transport in Spain only... only from Spain to France or France to Spain... but her website wil tell you. (http://www.expressbourricot.com/es/servicios/transportedepersonas.html)

Enjoy.

the bus is only about 5 euros, i think it would be a false economy to try and hitch it.

Is there a bus to St Jean now?? I am surprised - which carrier is providing the service?

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
