Is it feasible to camp on the Le Puy route in the woods (not established campgrounds)?

We will be starting in early May. Thanks.

The 9th edition the Lightfoot Guide will let you complete the journey your way.
The legality is somewhat unknown, but only a fire will bring enforcement in most cases.

"Wild" camping is not permitted. In places where there are no businesses dependent on touristic trade and provided you don't light fires, break fences or trample crops and especially don't foul watercourses, grazing land etc etc... Falcon, as usual, is correct. Cooking fires will exceed local tolerance; otherwise discrete camping well away from settlements and outside National Parks and similar is feasible but you may wish to consider how relaxed a nights sleep you are hoping for. That said I have encountered many a Paysanne who has let me camp in a corner, sometimes for €, sometimes for labour, but I have no personal experience of the Camino in France.

Bon chance

Hi, I met a young Swiss guy who stealth camped along the Le Puy route. He just waited til almost dark, went off trail to somewhere discrete and slept out in the open (I don't think he brought a tent just a sleeping bag and some sort of weatherproof cover). He occasionally stayed in hostels etc. I don't think he had any issues but I didn't quiz him in detail. We had exceptionally good weather most of the way so it would be quite another story if it rained alot I suspect.
