The first six months of this year have registered record numbers in the Way. The numbers of pilgrims until June 30 outweigh those recorded in previous years, and multiply those of the earlier Jacobean .
The first records kept in the county was in 1999. Then in the first six months came to Fisterra 796 pilgrims. On 31 December there were a total of 3768 . Just arrived this year to June 6064 , almost double that time in twelve months.
Taking as reference the previous Holy Year , 2004 , from January to June 2631 reached its goal pilgrims then , three times less than now.
Since Fisterranas started counting in 1997 , numbers have been growing steadily and without any setback. Last year was the one who bore far bulkier accounts , with 4549 walkers for the same period. The increase with respect to that data was just over 33%. Nor until now has been seen a percentage increase of this magnitude.
Although in the beginning of July there have been some vacancies in the hostels, in general, since the beginning of the summer demand far exceeded the supply of beds .
Moreover, the City Council of Finisterre and has opened the door , at least on one occasion, to a temporary shelter set up at the port. And the massive arrivals have only just begun. In the first ten days of July reached more than five hundred Fisterra walkers, and still expect significant arrivals , and pilgrimages that several large groups scheduled for this summer. Only one of them has to take place a thousand pilgrims. Neither the sports complex will have space for everyone.

Just walked from Santiago to Finisterre and on to Muxia and didn't feel overwhelmed by numbers of pilgrims. We had no trouble with accomodation - although not staying in albergues. The only place that was busy (possibly full) was Olveiroa. Sept 2010.

My husband and I would like to spend a night in Muxia after walking to Santiago but don’t have time to walk there. Rome to Rio says there’s busses twice daily, but if you go to the Monbus website...
