Knee don't stop Mee

I was always thankful, seeing all these walkers with knee support wraps, that I never had knee problems. Then last July (a year ago), I tore a lateral ligament in my knee, riding a bike. Apparently ligaments don't heal, as there is no blood supply. It's a structural issue and all you can do is strengthen the muscles around it, do stretching, etc. I did all that. I'm fine as long as I don't walk downhill, squat down and try to stand up, or try to kneel. Haha. I managed to walk the Portugues this year anyway, and just ignored the pain when it cropped up. It was a great walk! But I don't think I'd try the Primitivo.

So do I just have to live like this? Anyone here had a torn ligament repaired and how was your recovery? And secondarily, which country with socialized medicine will accept me as a citizen? (In the US, even with insurance, a basic MRI screening to evaluate the injury would be over a $1000.)

Maybe you will just have to wait until you are old enough for Medicare to kick in and then you have a brand new set of knees for free. I just had bi-lateral knee surgery in January and I am back "in training" for my next Camino.

The 9th edition the Lightfoot Guide will let you complete the journey your way.
I seem to have somewhat loose ligaments in my knees - I injured one skiing many years ago, and the doctor commented that the good knee was as loose as the injured one. I'm not sure of the extent of damage, as no scans, etc., were done, but it may not have been too severe. For a long time I had noticeable weakness and problems (e.g. it was easy to re-injure). However, now that I have been walking a lot for the past 10 years or so, I have had almost no problem with it. I cannot do a deep squat, but that is the only limitation.

My testimonial is just to say there is hope, and you should keep walking!

Sorry about knee.

When you find that company tell the rest of Americans on thread so we too can benefit.
