I have read the municipal alberge in Larrasoana is not good. Any reccomendations?

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-

It really depends on what you mean by 'not good' and where you have read this. Alternatively you could always stay in Zubiri or walk on to Zabilka. Buen Camino, SY

Thank you. How challenging would it be to walk from Ronceville to Zabilka?

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

We made the trip in May 2008, so information is dated. Having done the Chemin St. Jacques (GR 65) we were in decent shape, but found we had run out of steam by Larrasoana. The municiple albergue did not appear to be an option, so thought about going on, but the next listed albergue was Trinidad d"Arre about ten kilometers further on. Zabaldika was not yet up and running.

Decided instead to stay at one of the two pensions in town. It was worth it for a good night's sleep. Another problem was that we arrived on a Monday with the bar closed and no meals.

I can't speak for the municipal in Larrasoana, but when I passed through last October I stayed in Albergue San Nicolas and it was brilliant. Lovely host, delicious home-cooked dinner, small rooms (mine only had 3 bunks in) and brand new bathrooms. The owner and his wife seemed very kind and I was grateful to have the opportunity to stay there.

The Zabaldika parochial abbey was wonderful. It was a long walk there for me, lots of hills towards the end as I remember. I was very relieved to get the last bed!

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
I can highly recommend the "Hazel Stick" in Zubiri. Good management, excellent food & wine and both the dorm rooms and the private rooms with W/C are of the highest quality. We stayed there in April this year.

Echo the recommendation about San Nicolas in Larrasoana. Stayed there in late April and was very good introduction to a good private albergue. Clean, relatively small number of beds per room, lockers, good dinner, nice outdoor area, good small tienda next door.

I just posted this in another thread, but it bears repeating here, as this thread directly deals with the municipal albergue at Larrasoana.

I STRONGLY advise against staying at the municipal albergue at Larrasoana. I stayed there in 2013. Staying there gave me bronchitis, which almost ended my first Camino. Unless they completely renovated it between then and now, what I experienced on a wet and rainy late April day, was:
  • no heat - it was cold, an very damp in the bunk rooms. NOTHING could dry overnight. The sole heat source was from your other pilgrims.
  • dirty bathing and shower facilities, and only two for everyone to share
  • outside clothes washing tubs, which could not be used in the rain
  • no dry place to hang wet clothing to dry
  • no meal or food - you needed to find someplace down the street to eat.
It was cheap, then 6 Euro, but not worth that much. I recommend staying in a local private albergue, or stay in Zubiri. I accept that the weather had something to do with my perception. But some things cannot be helped by the weather...

This said, if they HAVE completely renovated the place since 2013, and fixed these critical deficiencies, then you might take a chance. But I would not hold my breath.

I hope this helps.

I was there in September2013 and I had any problem at all.It was just what I needed aplace to sleep, and with only 4 persons sleeping in one room it was just nice!

I am surprised that no one has mentioned the very useful download of the best Albergues on the Camino Frances. It was a very useful help to me and along the route many of my fellow pilgrims would ask where I was staying that night and follow my recommendation.

I can also recommend the Albergue San Nicholas at Larrasoana as being excellent. However when staying there please be very aware that it is easy to confuse the first and second floor and barge into the wrong bedroom (if I did it anyone can!).

I too had a good experience at San Nicolás Albergue in Larrasoaña.

After my walk from Orisson to Roncesvalles, I wanted to pamper myself. I stayed with Istvan and Barbara at Corazon Puro in Viskarreta, where I had spent my first night in Spain after being picked up by Istvan from the bus in Pamplona. This is just 11 km from Roncesvalles, and offers wonderful food and accommodation in their home (2 bedded rooms, no bunks, and I had a room to myself) at a very reasonable price. They will accept guests without reservations if there is space. As I had booked, I had left behind a few items which I thought I could do without hauling over the route Napoleon. The next day, I walked on to Zabaldika, where I had a truly amazing experience with the sisters and their Irish hospitalero and hospitalera. I would recommend this for anyone who wants to combine self-care with amazing experiences at the beginning of their camino.

Larrasoana. Don't stay there?. Plenty of places in zuburi. Every think changes on Camino very fast so anybody who did not stay there in last 3 months are out of date. I passed through there in May and did not hear any complaints.
