Leaving Backpacks at Albergues and Refugios

Hi we are planning to walk part of the camino (from Leon) in May 2007. Can we leave our backpacks at the Albergues and Refugios (for a few hours) while we explore the area.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
Hello there,
Yes, you can certainly leave your back pack in the albergues. Take your valuables such as camera, ipod, money etc with you but your packs will be quite safe.
I've never heard of packs or stuff being stolen from the packs in the albergues.

Hi Sil, thanks for the quick response and advice regarding leaving our backpacks at Refugios while we do some sightseeing. It’s reassuring to know that they will be safe.

Use common sense and leave nothing valuable and you should be OK
I know of only one loss, a walking stick and that was apparently a fellow peregrino
The only valuable thing most peregrino/a have with them is a camera
andyou will want it with you.

 Don't believe Shirley's comments about Villa Franca del Bierzo.

Hi Ursus, thank you for the response and the advice. I will make sure that I/we take any valuables with us when we go sightseeing.
