Lee Standstead Returns: A Pilgrimage to The Walters

Date: Sunday, December 2, 2012

Time: 02:00 PM–03:00 PM

Lee Sandstead returns to the Walters! Join the world’s most fired up art historian as he recounts his amazing pilgrimage to reignite his passion for art. Through a 2,000 plus mile long hike through Southern France and Northern Spain, Sandstead travelled along the medieval pilgrimage route known as the “Camino de Santiago,” or the “Way of Saint James.” After suffering from severe illness and undergoing major surgeries in 2009, Sandstead was left a frail man, whose zest for life and love of art had been drained from him. In order to regain the passion that had been lost, Sandstead began the arduous journey. Join Sandstead for an exciting recount of his life-saving Camino - a pilgrimage of love, pain and triumph!

About the Speaker
Without a doubt, Lee Sandstead is the world's most fired-up art historian. And of all the things that you can say about him, the most important is that he loves art. With the help of a beautiful French woman, Sandstead discovered art in his early 20s, and ever since, he has been on one amazing art adventure after another—from exploring the world’s greatest museums to walking over 2,200 miles through portions of France, Portugal and Spain along the medieval pilgrimage trail known as the Camino de Santiago to document ecclesiastical architecture.

From 2007-2009, he was host of Travel Channel's Art Attack with Lee Sandstead, which secured a Daytime Emmy nomination in 2009. In this series of thrilling TV documentaries, Sandstead and crew travelled to various museums around the United States examining each museum’s five must-see artworks in an informative, entertaining manner.
