Leon is full!

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Glad you found a place Simeon. Yes it can be a pain to find a place in the bigger Spanish cities over the weekend.

Probably shouldn't be too surprised but Leon has no beds tonight. And that was at about 2:30. Should have booked ahead. Got an expensive ok hotel n the outskirts. Oh the joy of soaking tired legs in a bath.....

Sorry this is too late for you, but Hostal Covent Garden, acalle Ancha, is great value for €17.00, breakfast included. Excellent beds, sheets, towels, no bath, just showers. Really nice owner.

Glad you found a nice room and with a bath. Yay!
For any peregrinas heading to León at the moment. The Trinitarian sisters have a student residence for females in León just a couple of blocks behind the cathedral. They offer a few private rooms to pilgrims. 20€ for comfortable double room with ensuite including big towels!!! breakfast and a view of the cathedral spires if you stand on tip toe and crane your neck. They allow pilgrims to stay more than one night. Even more importantly, the sisters are an absolute delight. If you feel in need of a blessing or just a bit of kindness this is the place to stay.

I don't know but someone else might know whether male pilgrims can staythere? There was a man staying in a neighbouring wing but I think he might have been a priest.
You will find them if you google Hermanas Trinitarias León or Residencia Trinitarias León.

There's a nice Albergue as you enter the city of Leon called Check In Leon. Really nice host and modern facilities. I agree that it is late for me to post this.

There is a wonderful public albergue in Virgen del Camino. Take the city bus if your exhausted

I’ve stayed at the Check In Rojas in Logrono. Nice facility too and great showers.

Now you know the way it is....... Here I am wide awake, legs still sore and feeling i must get up and walk !!!! despite the fact that I could stay in bed all day today if I wanted to. time to get up and enjoy Leon!

The Trinitas was one of my favorite places to overnight on the Camino. The sisters were so lovely, the bedrooms comfy, with real towels, nice showers and quietness.
Had stayed the night before in the Assisi albergue and did not enjoy that at all.

Right next to the municipal albergue in Leon is the church run Hospedería Monástica Pax. They have some really fancy and expensive rooms that can be booked online but Peg and I stayed there 2 nights in 2015 and I don't think it cost us more than 50 euros a night.

[Edit: @mspath corrected me below. The albergue was not the municipal one.]

I stayed there this year. It was crowded the first night and nearly empty the second. Very modern and squeaky clean. There was even a portable AC on wheels right at the foot of my bed ( it was blistering hot out) plus large free keyed lockers. The only down side was that it was a GOOD 30+ minute walk to the cathedral area. A bus into town is available right across the street, but the bus took a while too because of its rather circuitous (sp?) route and associated city traffic. There was also a huge supermarket very near.

As Rick notes
in Leon the Benedictinas
Hospideria PAX
offers private accommodation which is very nice and which you can reserve.

Next door their Pilgrim albergue, which is not a municipal albergue, provides dormitory accommodation for 134 at 5 euros with shared facilities but does not accept reservations except for groups. Both facilities are located on the plaza Santa María del Camino.

The Hospideria has a pleasant dining room open to all with a good inexpensive daily lunch menu at 15 euros and pilgrim menu at 9 euros.

While staying past years in the pilgrim albergue I often peeked at the Hospideria facilities which appear to be very comfortable. The choice is up to you!

In the future, if you want to treat yourself, stay in the Leon Parador using the Pilgrim discount. It was a highlight for me, and the bathtub, bathrobe and wonderful room changed me. You probably need to make a reservation in advance. After so many miles... you deserve a treat!

One hopeful ordinary hotel in León had a room listed on booking.com for 500 euros for yesterday (Saturday night). I have heard of surge pricing but....

Could not agree more , after a few days break I decided to stay and extra few days as it was such a great place and the guys are so helpful. I am looking at being there in 2018.

I stayed there in 2016 having stayed in Leon 3 times on 3 walks I must admitt its a great place book on there web site.

We ( group of 3) will be in Leon in 2 days, thanks for the above accommodation advice
Stay at the Covent Garden if you can a great location, great accom. great guys looking after you and a great bar (Sevilla) around the corner who looks after Australians I would always stay there( been to Leon 3 times). Melbourne Oz.

I have heard of Leon filling up before when there`s a major football game in town. Seems the football fans have learned to get a pilgrim`s passport and show up at an Albergue with their clothing in a backpack. The responsibility is on the hospilaro to vet out these fans from the pilgrims. I guess most albergues just want the business and don`t care who provides the money.

Do you mean the municipal albergue is full or ALL the albergues are full?

When one says the town is full and no beds are available it means that Dave , no beds in any.
When on the Camino its good to keep the forum on iPad.
But my wife welcomed this news years ago , same as Simeon, straight to a hotel and bath.

I totally agree. I stayed there last week. I loved the comforter and the owner personally doctored up my feet. Good location too!

In a city the size of León it's really hard to determine that there are absolutely no beds available anywhere.

If you are on foot, carrying all your gear and all the apps, websites, booking.com etc says that Leon is full, then for you it's full, unless you want to walk around aimlessly looking for places that have no online presence but might still have a bed!

When I was in Leon it was also full when I looked the day before as it was Saturday night. As a result of this I left very early to grab one of the main albergue beds and that only had a handful left at midday.

I think a good tip is to avoid cities on the weekends. Aside from the accommodation issues, you really want to be there when things are open, and more often or not, things are shut on Sunday in Spain!

Really don't mean to sound pedantic here, just trying to get the word out for those who don't know... but when booking.com or any other website says León is full, what that means is that the several rooms that they have access to are full. Contacting places directly is the only way to get accurate information about availability. Booking is quite happy to steer you to the last few rooms it has available (expensive and on the fringe) and that may be easier for you, but a few phone calls or emails the day before are likely to find you something more central and more affordable.

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!
Also regarding Leon, the tourist office opposite of the cathedral hands out their lists of accommodation places. Order a coffee in one of the many cafes with view of the cathedral and call around a bit. Buen Camino, SY

I think you underestimate how many places are bookable online, even somewhere like Spain where booking things online is less common than many other countries. I had a similar issue in Logrono once, everything was booked online, the tourist info just gave me a list so I wandered around and could not find any beds. I ended up walking on, thankfully it was early afternoon.

Similar experience in Triacastela this year. Arrived early. Walked the whole of town, one end to the other, looking for a private room. Heaps of bunks beds available. Did eventually get a private room at a truly exorbitant price on the very edge of town almost right where the two cement markers direct pilgrims to the alternate routes leaving town. No regrets amd very grateful. It was a comfortable room and I needed it because of yet another flare up of a recurring flu. I know I could have booked a far more reasonably priced room if I had booked ahead but I didn’t know that my flu would return during that days walk.
