I’ll be staying in Leon for two days @March 19/20th. Would like private pensioned/small hotel/upscale accommodation recommendations. Single woman/traveling alone/poor Spanish but tries hard. I’m coming from Madrid (via USA) and want to get over jet lag. After Leon I’d appreciate recommendations on easiest way to get to Sarria. I’m most interested in EASIEST. Not necessarily cost effective- in fact I’ve read about a car service with English speaking drivers who will stop along the way to view other unique sites. Anyone with knowledge of this service?

I would just get on a bus or train - I don't see a direct service but I'd pick convenient times, and just enjoy the trip. For me that seems easier than dealing with a car service.

I would just get on a bus or train - I don't see a direct service but I'd pick convenient times, and just enjoy the trip. For me that seems easier than dealing with a car service.

We stayed in Leon and then went from there to Sarria. The most direct route was to hire a driver, which we did. It was a service I found online and and I do not remember the service. The driver was friendly, but knew no English. We did not see a simple bus or train solution so we took the driver route to save time and allow us to rest in Leon rather than spend a lot of time waiting on transfers...but that was a few years ago. Things may have changed.

We stayed at the Hospedería Monástica Pax and had a room with a great view over the courtyard. The courtyard had a fairly large, old fountain that served pilgrims on the Camino (formerly I would say...but I saw someone drinking from it). Also, the courtyard had the historic church of St. Mary of the Camino as one of the buildings bordering it. I would gladly stay there again!

Mrs C and I booked Apartamentos m.bell via booking.com for our stay in Leon last May (Sunday). The apartment consisted separate lounge, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom. It was immaculate. Fabulous value at £54 and situated no more than 50m from the cathedral. Leon is a wonderful city. We spent all Sunday afternoon in the Barrio Húmedo, enjoying the numerous tapas bars. Eight bars. Eight beers (and a bottle of wine). Eight tapas. Eight o’clock in bed. Lovely.

I highly recommend staying at the Leon Parador (historical sites converted into hotels). It is in a former Monastery and only guests can tours all the site. It is magnificent. Paradors have specials for peregrinos with their credential, ages over 55 and other specials. There is also much to see in Leon including its gorgeous cathedral. The historic town center is a treasure trove of incredible places.

I understand your two requests, but I don't really understand your rationale. If you are travelling via Madrid, could you take time-out there to overcome jetlag, then travel by train to Sarria?
I know that intercity train journeys in the USA are uncommon but trains in most of Europe, and Spain in particular, are a relaxing yet swift way to travel and allow you to see the landscape and meet locals and other travellers en route while enjoying a comfortable seat and a coffee or snack.
If Leon is an essential stopover (and it is a wonderful city) then again train to Sarria (first class if preferred) would in most cases tick the 'Easiest' box and possibly the 'Quickest' box too.

On my Camino I discovered that the Parador hotels were offering a deal to people of a certain age so I stayed at the Paradors in both Leon and Santiago. Both were stunning and wonderful experiences. I highly recommend them for anyone with the cash and need for a retreat from the Albergues for a night or two. In the one at Santiago - which is opposite the cathedral - I was very, very naughty and even had some clothes laundered and pressed as well as having a room service evening meal because it was cheaper than the restaurant. So bad of me, I know, but such lovely memories to add to my other ones of the Camino.

There is a special pilgrim vespers you could attend to begin your pilgrimage/ camino .
It is more central than the Parador .

We also stayed at Hospederia Monastica Pax in Leon. It was in a great location and the staff were really helpful. The Paradors are also wonderful as others have described. Buen Camino.🌹
