Less pilgrims in Burgos, more in Santiago

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
When I saw a similar story on the same figures a couple of days ago I looked at the pilgrim office Compostela statistics for 2018, 2017 and 2016. Comparing numbers starting from SJPDP, Roncesvalles, Pamplona, Burgos, Leon, Astorga and Ponferrada. In every case but one there have been decreases in numbers both in 2017 and 2018. Not a huge drop but I found it significant that numbers on the earlier stages of the Camino Frances are actually declining when other Caminos are seeing large increases.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
I've only walked 2 Caminos, but I never stayed in albergues in large cities. Same with many I've walked with. I wonder if a contributing factor might be the stronger economy of the past few years, and that the increase in peregrinos from other countries is a somewhat wealthier population that can afford other lodging options?

I also agree with Brady and Ms. Yates. I think as more people do multiple caminos and people who wish to experience a first "mellower" camino we will see increases on other camino routes.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
