Liner socks

HI everyone

I keep seeing mentions for "liner socks" in several strings here. Is this actually the name of a kind of sock? Or just a name that people give informally, to a sock that you simply put inside another sock? In other words, can I walk into a shop and ask, "Do you have any liner socks?"

I actually did this yesterday and was met with blank stares. If anyone knows about this, please let me know. Thanks.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Hi Doog

I am Doug, in Singapore. We don't have any mountains out here--maybe that explains the blank stares I get when I ask for them? However, we do have two outdoors shops--I will go there today and ask about these socks.

Thanks!

Hello Dreamcatcher,

If you can't find the liner socks, basic nylons (or pantyhose) will do the trick as well. If you wear them inside out, so that the stitching is on the outside, that will avoid the rubbing on your toes. Hope this helps and good luck!

Buen Camino!

I walked the VDLP in May and although did not meet many people I don't think anyone wore liner socks. I bought fairly thick quality socks several months before I left and wore them in for a while-same with the boots. I also did lots of preparatory walking before hand and had only one small blister over 1000 kms. Others did not do this and several had to drop out because of blisters.
all the best

I have been looking everywhere for liner socks today and can't find anything in the sports shops here in Barcelona. Do you think I could just buy a pair of men's very thin polyester socks and they would work work just as well? I only have 7 days before I start my camino so I don't have enough time to order online now, and am starting to panic!! :(

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
From REI:
Liner socks: Liners are thin, lightweight socks designed to be worn next to your skin, under a pair of regular hiking socks. Typically made of synthetics like CoolMax® polyester or polypropylene, they pull moisture away from the feet to the outer sock where it can evaporate. Liner socks are popular because they can be washed and dried easily on long trips. They're usually used with hiking boots rather than walking or running shoes, since boots often have extra volume to accommodate them.
If the polyester socks you find fit this description, then you will be OK.

Look for womens knee-high nylons. That's what I use and they work great.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
