Lisbon to Sarria

My daughter and I expect to fly to Lisbon in mid-September because it is a direct flight. We are starting our walk in Sarria because my daughter only has one week from work.

Is there a bus or train from Lisbon to Sarria. The flight costs are prohibitive.

Any details much appreciated.

There is a train from Lisboa to Medina del Campo where you transfer to the train to Santiago. From Santiago you can take a bus to Lugo, then transfer to a bus to Sarria. There also are trains from Santiago to Sarria through Ourense and Monforte de Limos.

Renfe railway site indicates a 'trenhotel' train leaves Lisboa mid evening to Madrid.

You transfer at Medina del Campo early in the morning. The train from Medina to Ferrol leaves around noon and passes through Sarria early evening.

Trip is 21 hours with 8 hour layover at Medina.

ALSA bus lines indicate one bus early morning from Lisbon to Sarria with one connection in Valenca do Minho. Trip is about 10 hours. Its international.

Edit: I don't think the schedule by ALSA is workable ... it leaves Fatima at 9:15 and arrives the next stop Leira at 8:45.

Thank you for your replies. I'm starting to wonder if we should fly into Santiago instead even if we do have at least one stop. We are flying from Toronto.

TAP airlines flies from Lisbon to A Coruna ... costly though.
Renfe operates trains from A Coruna to Sarria (about two hours) ... and from Santiago to A Coruna.

CP is Portugals Rail. 3.5 hours Lisboa to Braga. There are several trains.

ALSA has a bus that stops at Braga and passes through Sarria. 5.5 hours once per day. (I have greater confidence in the schedule for this)

Since time is a major factor another option to consider is to walk to Santiago on the Portugal Way

Why walk from Sarria? Generally overcrowd, especially with Spanish kids just walking for a C V
Why not bus it up to a week's walk long either of the two portuguese Caminhos?
The Coastal or the internal.
Both much more rewarding.

ALSA is good. In fact we took a bus from Lisbon to Fatima stayed 2 days then bus form fatima to Sarria both jorneys where economical

Bus in stages works better.

Lisbon to Vigo, Vigo to Lugo, Lugo to Sarria.

Just what I should suggest. Start in Tuí just at the Spanish-Portugese border... Great walk and not so crowded and beautifull places you pass like Redondela, Pontevedra, Padrón...

I just found out that Renfe operates trains from Oporto to Vigo.

So CP train from Lisbon to Oporto. Renfe from Oporto to Vigo. 2 possibilities from Vigo: Vigo (Guixar) to A Coruna and A Coruna to Sarria; or, Vigo to Monforte de Lemos and Monforte de Lemos to Sarria.

A Coruna route is longer but trains run more frequently.
