Suzanne and Susan Walk the Camino

I started this blog in 2010 when my friend Suzanne and I walked from St. Jean to Los Arcos. I don't know that we began with the idea that we would finish the Camino any time (if ever), but the tradition carried one when I returned to the Camino in July of 2011 with my sister. I'm intent on finishing it next summer! You can read about it here: http://chicasandando.blogspot.com

Our Little Green Tracs is a blog about pilgrim trails in Europe that include the Camino de Santiago in Spain (done in 2007) and Via Francigena in Italy. Some of these entries include our personal experiences of walking the Via Francigena in 2008. We have also walked the Jakobsweg in Switzerland and Austria (2010)

I plan to post in the coming days, some entries of my more recent experience of walking the Camino Frances the second time this past May/June 2011
/

I have still not blogged about my latest camino done this past May and June. However I have managed to get some photos together, so for now, this might do. Welcome any comments

Last September 19th , my son, my 15 yr old niece and I, walked from St. Jean. We arrived in Santiago Oct. 15th. I have cancer and wanted to have a meaningful journey to decide whether I would do chemo. Our blog is really funny, poignant and very emotional, in some places. http://www.caminonotchemo.com
It was a wonderful, meaningful experience. I still draw from the 'Camino' as I prepare for surgery/chemo.

Most of my Camino videos are hosted on YouTube, http://www.youtube.com/Caminoheart, but my most recent video, made after walking the Camino Frances for a second time in Sept.-Oct. 2011 is here: http://vimeo.com/34201214.

Images and music keep the memory of the Camino alive for me!

Mm, and I had a lovely surprise when I arrived in Fisterra this past year... I got to meet Ian (aka sagalouts here)! He makes an appearance in the vimeo.com video :).

Buen Camino, wherever your footsteps and your heart lead you next!

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
@unadara, I walked the Camino Frances as far as Leon last September so I'll be returning to the Frances again this August. Hoping to walk from Bayonne to Santiago and on to Finisterre. Exploring some of the alternative routes I didn't take the last time.

Hey everyone,

My travel blog can be found here: http://www.traveljournals.net/travelers/francesk/

I'll be starting my camino on the 17th April!

You can have a look at my previous adventures to see if you like my style of writing. If you do then you can subscribe to my blog which will send you notifications of when i've updated it. Makes it nice and easy :)

FrancesK, I noticed that you may have the same itinerary to SJPDP as I have except that I will be arriving on May 10th. Are you flying in to Heathrow, bus to Stansted Airport, Ryanair to Biarritz, bus to Bayonne, train to SJPDP? If so, are you concerned about the tight connection between Heathrow and the flight departure to Biarritz?

Darran, I just read the start of your blog on your first Camino and I must say that I hope you will persevere to completion. You have an excellent writing style, very simple and easy to read, where you say a few words, post a pic and move on. Also, your pics were excellent. What camera did you use? I head out in May and thought about a blog, but I'm so concerned with trying not to complicate my voyage and this is always my tendency. Look forward to following your blog's progress. Rick

Rick, thank you. I bought a notebook after landing in France and started writing up the day's travels but after a few days I fell hopelessly behind. I think for my next Camino I will bring a small notebook/sketch book and just take notes to elaborate on later rather than trying to write it all down while I'm there. That said, between the photos and my guidebook (John Brierley), I have pretty reliable record to jog my memory when it comes to writing it all down.

My camera was/is Nikon D80 and carried three lenses with me - the 18-135mm kit lens, a 50mm lens and a 35-80mm. On reflection, I'm not sure that there was much justification for bringing either the 50mm or 35-80mm lenses as for the most part, I used the kit lens. I actually had to make myself change lenses so I could half justify bringing those two.

I'll be bringing the camera again but seriously re-evaluating the extras I brought last time. While I thought I'd kept it simple, I could have been simpler still. Nothing teaches like experience. :)

Darran, thanks for the note back. I'm going to take a Sony TX200V point and shoot and hope that it gets the job done. Will trade the extra weight for my iPad, which now has a feature that allows you to speak and it transcribes to text. I guess that I'm getting lazy. Look forward to your blog updates.Rick

Hi Rick,

I'm not actually doing it all in one go. I have an Auntie who lives in Cambridge so i am flying to Heathrow and then catching a train to Cambridge to spend the night with her. The following day I catch a train to Stansted. I prefer'd this slightly less rushed approach!

Frances, that makes more sense. I think I'm putting a little too much pressure on myself that Airlines and buses will maintain their schedules. Anyway, it is what it is and I'll just be prepared to make adjustments.

Hi everyone!

We are first time pilgrims and first time bloggers.
After making a decision to walk the Camino last year we have been planning and preparing and are now at the stage of counting down the last few weeks before we begin. We are experiencing a combination of excitement, anxiety and nervousness about our forthcoming walk. We depart from Ireland on 22nd May. Thanks to everyone on the forum for your input it has been a great aid to us for planning.

I have to say, I really wasn't sure if I should make the video, or even upload it, as it is kind of difficult to convey what the Camino meant to me (a few friends questioned why I would walk across Spain!?!). But after your very kind comments, I'm really glad that I did. Many thanks for taking the time to watch it, and letting me know your thoughts.

To those about to embark on it this year - have a great time, and look forward to hearing your own stories when you get back :)

Matt

Matt, thank you so much for sharing your videos... I have watched 3 already and they are amazing.

I am preparing for my first camino in a few weeks (start around 5 May from St John Pied de Port) after a hell of a year. It really spoke to me when you said the Camino can offer healing.

I have also done the long trip back from living in London (I live in Sydney)... Now I am leaving Sydney, final destination unknown (I might be back but know knows!).

Anyway, thank you so much for sharing this... Made my day(s)!

Hi everyone.

We have been and continue to work on our blog which is an attempt to record some of our adventures over the past 10 years or so
There is a considerable amount on there relating to our 2009 Camino F which I hope you may find of interest. In particular there is a typed version of Catherine's journal which I hope many will find interesting and perhaps a fairly personal view of the ups and downs of undertaking such tough yet wonderful experience.
Hopefully some of our other pages will also be interesting as well
If you like this sort of information just press the follow button as we are going to be adding some pics and text about further walks in NZ, Australia and also travels to Croatia and Italy.

WOW! I'm glad this topic was started, now I can add your blogs to my RSS feeds to network. I'm hoping to make a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela in the next few years. I maintain a blog over on Blogspot, mostly my reflections and insights into being a Christian in modern society. In case you'd like the URL, it's http://LiveinHisWord.blogspot.com. I don't post very often, but my posts are usually on topics that I have to mull over for a bit and make sure they don't sound like babble. Sneak peek into my draft postings I'm working on right now: a review for "The Way", thoughts on "Jesus Christ Superstar" and a post about the Camino. Better get to writing.

Buen Camino and De Colores!

We hope we have rehearsed enough and are ready to go. We have started a blog, link below, and welcome everyone to look at it. We hope you read it. We will read your blogs as well.

Finished the Camino Frances on October 7th. Had a great time on the trail. Just one experience of bed bugs..not for me but for a fellow peregrino, the friendliness of all is a feature of the camino, especially that of the Spaniards. See my blog at http://www.gerry-camino.com.

I LOVED the Camino from day one. Was delighted I'd spent so much time researching on the Camino forum. Kept a blog as I went and now give talks in Belfast about the Camino. Had a desire to do it again on the day I finished and that desire remains as strong some four months after completion.

I see that this is an old thread, but maybe there are those who still look at it. I will be leaving mid/end- April 2013. I am blogging about my preparation and training (how to get this 46-year-old 5'5"270# girl ready to go) and will be sharing stories, adventures, thoughts and photos from the road. Would love to have anyone follow along! My website is http://www.bohemianvirgo.com and you can also like my facebook page Bohemian Virgo for additional brain drippings! Buen Camino!

I have already begun my Jan’s Camino de Santiago blog and am planning my pilgrimage beginning May 7th and ending July 4th, 2013. I am taking the Camino Frances beginning in St. Jean Pied de Port. I am sharing my preparations for the journey: physical, material, and spiritual, then my travel from the USA to the starting point of St. Jean Pied de Port, France, followed by my daily adventures and the stories of the people I meet on the Camino. Take my hand and walk with me as I share, with some of the more technical aspects of the journey, my most personal thoughts and experiences along the way.

http://caminodesantiagoblog.com/

Beginning May 7th, my blog will catch fire as my pilgrimage begins and I blog while on the road. Thanks to my cooler-than-cool unlocked world iPhone 5 and my Pico Freeloader solar charger, I won't even have to use WiFi or charge my phone in the towns, so if I am huddling under a tree in a snowstorm on the Pyrenees and want to talk to all of you, I will blog. I'm buying a chip with cheap French and Spanish data packages to stay connected with my loyal followers.

Take a look at my blog, and if you wish to join, just type your email into the 'subscribe' section to get automatic emails when I post something new. I will try to respond to every single one of you who posts a comment. I really want to hear from you all - even my critics! Your tips, suggestions, advice, and recommendations of off-the-track detours are welcome and will make my journey much more interesting. You can unsubscribe anytime my writing no longer trips your trigger!

I plan on writing two books when I return. I plan to write one based on my blog and the stories of the people I meet, and also plan to write a character-driven fictional story set on the Camino.

Buen Camino,
Jan
