Planning month of June to do Camino Primitivo starting in Villaviciosa. Flight to Madrid, train to Oviedo then spending a few days before starting the Camino. Any easy way to Villaviciosa ? Any recommendations for a pension or hotel in Oviedo to get ready ? Might use same as we pass thru on the pilgrimage .

dobry camino

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
We stayed at Hostal Oviedo and it is very pilgrim friendly. Breakfast, and other meals, were easy to get in the Cafe Cristina on the corner, facing the station. Booking may be advisable, but there are other places nearby if you check on the map.
The ALSA bus should go to Villaviciosa several times a day and the bus station is just down the road from the train station.

Hi, Joseph,
Welcome to the forum! Villaviciosa is on the Norte, not the Primitivo. It's actually where you can detour down to Oviedo from the Norte. This is how people walking the Norte switch over to the Primitivo. Since you are arriving in Oviedo, you can just start the Primitivo there! Unless you have a special interest, like pre-Romanesque churches, and want to start in Villaviciosa so that you can walk to Oviedo with a stop for a visit of the stunning little church, Valdediós. But if you are just going to walk the Primitivo, the Primitivo begins in Oviedo!

We stayed in the municipal albergue in Oviedo and thought it very nice and clean. The bathrooms were great too with nice private showers. I believe the building may have been a renovated convent.

We chose the Hostal Oviedo because it was so near the railway and we needed to catch the very early morning FEVE to Ribadeo. Also we were not 'walking' at that time but passing through to start our Camino in Ferrol. We stayed there again when starting the Primitivo so have never stayed in the albergue in Oviedo. It sounds good.

Last time I looked there were 10 Alsa buses a day from Oviedo to Villaviciosa. Takes about 1 hour.

Blessings on your planning

Sounds like your choice of lodging was perfect for your particular situation!
