There seem to have been a number of 'gastronomic' posts on the Forum recently. Many of us will soon be observing the penitential season of Advent. I wrote this blog post last year to help us to meditate on the connections between Advent and the vast quantities of lomo and chips I ate on the Camino last year:

Blessed Advent everyone,

Don't believe a word of it - last time I had lunch with Andy he tried to order lomo and chips!

Withdrawal symptoms. Anyway, the restaurant didn't have any. Neither did they have Helado de Lomo.

Have you tried Sainsbury's tinned pulpo?

Some of my best-remembered meals on the Camino included lomo :D

Yes - I clearly remember 4 or 5 days on the Camino Sanabres when there was nothing to eat but lomo.

The next time JohnBCCanada is in Montréal, he might want to check out the Centro Cultural Gallego at 4602 Saint Laurent. It will remind him of a Galician country restaurant and he will be able to eat pulpo to his heart's content, although they often run out by Monday. In which case, the Sala Rossa at the Casa del Popolo at 4800 Saint Laurent will supply his needs (and he can commune spiritually with the late Lhasa de Sela, who sang and ate there often).

..any pulperia at all.

John,
Check your local China Town restaurants. They know how to prepare the beast.

Bon appétit,
Jean-Marc

'Lomo' as I understand it is 'rump steak' and 'pulpo' is octopus. Although having read Andy's blog (Nov 2009) maybe that should read 'rum steak' and 'octo us'.
