Los ''Indignados'' Protests

In the past week I have been reading in the news about the so called 15th May Movement, a week of protests which started in Madrid and has spread to 58 cities. Leading up to the municipal elections, the Spanish youth is expressing its dissatisfaction with the current Spanish political system and the high unemployment rate, through a series of peaceful demonstarations.

I was just wondering if any Spanish forum members could give me any more information. Although the demonstrations were due to end on the 22nd May, and have thus been ''peaceful'', they have been compared to those in Egypt and Greece, which became progressively more violent. I have read that Pamplona and Burgos were involved. Starting my pilgrimage from St Jean Pied de Port on 29th May, should I expect to encounter any demonstrations along the way?

Getting excited/nervous now! Peter

Wow nice pictures! Did you take them yourself?
To be honest I'm more interested than worried about the protests. I see the situation in Spain as very similar to Britain and wish we could have seen something similar, rather than the violent and destructive behaviour that took place.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
UNFORTUNATELY I am rather far from Santiago at the moment.......
I found the images on the net (webcam on the praza do obradoiro) after having seen them on a German pilgrims' forum some days ago.

After "googling" around, I found a blog about Spain (can't find it back - internet is huge...) saying this movement is actually spreading all over Europe.
So maybe we will find some 'indignados' soon in our countries...

PS But if I really consider this, I am pretty sure that we Belgian will again be far too phlegmatic to act... (why people use to say it's a characteristic of Englishmen?)
