"Lugar de inicio de la peregrination"

We purchased our credencials through Ivar, and we were looking at filling in the first page. Below the name, there is a line to enter the starting point of the pilgrimage: "Lugar de inicio de la peregrination".
We live in Australia (Melbourne), but we will be starting our walk from Switzerland, where my wife's family lives. Our walk will take us through the Via Gebennensis, the Via Podiensis, and then the Camino del Norte.
What do we nominate as our Lugar de inicio: Melbourne or Switzerland?
Or does it matter at all?
Note that we will be using a number of credencials, so we only intend to put the Lugar de inicio on the first one.

True if you walk to the ferry or airport, but for most of us it is where we start walking once we arrive in Spain (or other European destination). The Pilgrims office records where we walk from, not where we fly/sail etc from, so that is what we enter on our credenciales, plus when asked - our country of origin.

Normally, the Pilgrim Office in Santiago will expect to see the starting point of your walking.... in that space.

However..nothing official to be concerned about.

You don't actually have to walk anywhere except from Sarria so strictly speaking until that point where you start walking is immaterial. Your pilgrim journey starts from the point that your journey towards Santiago starts. The credencial up to Sarria only gains you access to some places to stay.

As I understand it the Pilgrims Office will record your start point provided the credencial is stamped with it. I am not sure what distance they will record against it though. Hopefully someone with better insight into the Pilgrims Office than me can clarify this.

You don't have to walk from Sarria, particularly. Just the final 100km of any route into Santiago. There seems still to be a pervading perception (not helped by the current BBC2 series, that the Camino Francés is "the" Camino.

The above post already clarified the last 100km requirement but stating the starting place of walking would give the PO info for issuing the certificate of distance and for their statistics how many pilgrims take different routes. So it's not entirely immaterial.

State as "Lugar de origen de la peregrinacion" the name of the town in which you start walking. If I understood correctly, the name of the town in Switzerland.

As mentioned above, this point is irrelevant for obtainning the Compostela. It is relevant if you want also the distance certificate.

It's data collection for statistical purposes, so that it concerns less the matter of where you start your Camino spiritually, symbolically, religiously, etc, than where you physically pick up your pack and start putting one foot in front of the other in the direction of Compostela.

In your case, wherever it may be in Switzerland that you'll start the physical journey.

In Denver we have our own Camino Cello...from the Colorado Front Range Chapter of the American Pilgrims on the Camino...also an annual Shell Cerimony with Pilgrim Blessing...Benedictio perarum et baculorum...the ritual blessing of the pilgrim satchel and staff...the Camino really starts where you leave your life behind for a new adventure.
