Do I need to prebook luggage transport?
My friend and I are starting from St J Friday 4th May, and would like to have our bags transported.
I have booked luggage transport from St J for the first day, but not after that.
I hoped to carry my rucksack but I have developed awful knee pain in the last few days, and my Physio says I need to get my bag transported if I can.

Thanks
Helen

You can arrange baggage transport each day, but you do need to arrange it. Once in Spain, you can select from several companies, but Jacotrans and the postal service, Correos, dominate the market and have a good reputation. No service will be responsible for your bags; you will simply leave them at the point of your departure and find them at your destination accommodation. Some places will receive them and put them inside, others will let them accumulate outside the albergue. I have always been surprised that they have not become targets of theft. There have been reports of elaborate burglaries of albergues -- climbing garden walls and entering through windows -- while the stack of unattended backpacks remains unviolated. We can all hope that it continues!! :)

We used Jacotrans. Their service was great. My husband left his Bose noise cancelling headphones at the hotel in Longronos where we spent a rest day. A wonderful woman at the next albergue spoke english and spanish and knew the driver who had that section of the route. She had his phone number on her phone. She talked to the hotel, the driver and arranged to have them picked up. When we got to our next stop they were there with our luggage. We left a tip in an envelope and the next stop the envelope was there, the money gone and a note thanking us for the tip. I was happy he got the tip! We had a large suitcase following us because we had done a Mediterranean cruise before the Camino. Jacotrans took very good care of us.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
I have used Caminofacil for many years for my group trips and I can vouch for their professionalism.
You can either book your stages ahead on their website, or you can just pay as you go. Nearly every albergue will have the little envelopes that you put on your luggage. Write your next stage on the envelope and stick in the cash. Your bags will be there when you arrive.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
