We are arriving in Madrid in the afternoon, and the picking up a bus or train to Astorga. Does anyone have a recommendation for a place to stay stay in Astorga? Realistically we probably won't be getting any to town until after 8pm. Arriving late like this, will this rule out any of the albergues?

Very light, comfortable and compressible poncho. Specially designed for protection against water for any activity.

Our Atmospheric H30 poncho offers lightness and waterproofness. Easily compressible and made with our Waterproof fabric, its heat-sealed interior seams guarantee its waterproofness. Includes carrying bag.

It's been a few years since I've stayed in Astorga, but arriving at 8pm I'd probably go for something using Booking.com. Just my opinion. On first nights I like to know where I'm staying without concerns. Although you didn't say when your traveling. Summer I would def opt or a pre arranged place. Later in the fall, not so much. Good luck. I"m sure others will be along shortly with current and wise advice! Buen Camino!

We will be walking the first week of September.

I would go for private accomodation as well, due to the lateness. Better to guarantee a bed without the trouble of hitting a closed door. Also, Astorga is beautiful and a very nice place to adapt from jet lag (if that's the case), so a later check out from a private place can also be good.

Booking.com is your friend in that case. You can also check Gronze to see which accomodation they list in Astorga: https://www.gronze.com/etapa/san-martin-camino/astorga

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

I stayed in the Guadi Hotel in Astorga in April. It's perfect location as it's across the street from the bus stop plus the cathedral and to top it off, it's on the camino. Great little hotel - nothing fancy but has a good restaurant. I'm right behind you as I start there the end of September. Have a wonderful camino.

Second vote for Hotel Guadi

@Korean bell , sounds as though you may already be in Astorga. but ...

In the cathedral precinct, and directly on the camino, are two hotels.

Hotel Gaudi that @Sidekick mentions above.

Hotel Ciudad de Astorga that I stayed in October 2017. Good clean modern rooms and a good price.

Kia kaha (take care, be strong, get going)
