I vaguely remember someone saying that you can book a train from Madrid to Leon at the airport?
Was I dreaming - or is this possible?

I just checked the Renfe site. It doesn't appear that there is a train stop at Barajas Airport. Maybe you can buy one at the Metro station? From what I saw, the trains going to Leon from Madrid depart from Atocha.

What I do know is that there is a Correos office at the airport. It was open the last time I was there, & is on the way to the metro station.

Thanks Kelly - I thought I was dreaming!
I remember that some trains can be booked online and others not. My peregrina will just have to check this one.
I clicked on the trains on the renfe site and both the ALVIA and the Regional leave from Chamartin.
She can get the metro from Barajas to Chamartin.
Hugs,

Wow, I swear I saw "Atocha." That'll teach me to surf the net before my first cup of coffee! Either way, it should be easy for your friend to get a ticket at the train station, even if she has to walk up & get it.

Of course, I was also searching for trains to Burgos (am revamping my plans AGAIN), so maybe I got a case of the dumb & confused the two. Wouldn't be the first time.

I double-checked my Madrid guide, & there is no mention of being able to purchase train tix at Barajas. There is a tourist office in T1 & an information booth at T4; perhaps they can be purchased there, but it might be better just to go on to the correct station. The post offices are also in T1 & T4.

Wolverine:

The bus ride from Madrid to Burgos is very scenic and I would highly recommend it. As I recall it was about E20 and took about 4 hours.

Jeff, thanks. I'll look into taking the bus v. the train. I want to get to Burgos early enough to hoof it to Tarjados so I can stay at different albergues than I did the last time. :)

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
There are five or six trains per day from Madrid Chamartin to Leon. (Chamartin is an easy subway ride from Barajas airport, with a change at Nuevos Ministeros station.) Some of these Renfe trains also stop at Camino places like Sahagun or Astorga or Ponferrada or Orense. Easy as can be if you travel light and avoid the rush hours.

There is a Renfe office in the airport. It is on the lower level, just to the right when you exit customs. They can sell you a ticket there. Then you can take the Metro to Chamartin.

You are my hero!! I knew I wasn't dreaming!
THANKS Rambler - I will pass this info onto my peregrina amiga.
