Madrid to O Cebreiro?

I am trying to find the best way to get from Madrid to O Cebreiro: is it to fly to Santiago & take bus or car from there (how much?) or take bus from Madrid? I am coming in September & need to figure out whether I will need tickets ahead of time or will I be able to find tickets from the Madrid airport that day. I am also wondering if I should try to make reservations in Cebreiro for the first night so that I don't get stranded if I get in late. I would appreciate any recommendations/information.

This has come up a few times recently and it would be good to have a definitive post.

imho the best way is via Lugo and on to Piedrafita - O Cebreiro

So from Madrid either a direct coach http://www.madrid-guide-spain.com/madrid-lugo.html

Or fly to Santiago and get a bus - there is a bus to Lugo from Santiago airport

Other opinions?
