March Accommodation: Rabanal/Triacastela/O Cebreiro

Hi. We are completing (hopefully) our last stages from March 15-29. We have managed to find accommodation everywhere from Leon to Santiago. But, no luck whatsoever for Rabanal (18th), O'Cebreiro (22nd) and Triacastela (23rd). No Albergues or Hostels/Pensions are replying to emails. We're wondering if anyone has any suggestions? Given the time of year, we want to be sure we have somewhere in advance every night. 12 down, 3 to go! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Pete

We have stayed in O'Cebreiro twice at the Casa Navarro. They only have 3 rooms, but are not in the Brierly book so you may have luck.

I can not speak about O Cebreiro and Triacastela, but for instance in Rabanal La Posada de Gaspar had plenty vacancies even in summer, probably because of their rate over 40e per person. Still I would not miss the opportunity to stay in albergue Gaucelmo there. Another memorable place was monastery in Samos, if you plan to stop there. Pretty minimalistic, but really unforgettable experience. Since you have already booked most of the nights, may be those 3 unknown will add just a little bit more thrill to your Camino ?

I did not stay at O'Cebreiro - stop at Laguna de Castilla - La Escuela (a private albergue phone 987684786 9 Euros). This is a privately operated albergue - part of a network across NW Spain, (they also operate in Villafranca del Beirzo), in Triacastela - Complexo Xacobeo (again its 9 Euros (phone 982548037). They also operate a bar/restaurant virtually next door. Sorry I do not have email contacts, but if you keep an eye open you may find one of their brochures in other private albergues further east (or even in the tourist bureau in Astorga. Good luck!

Hello Pete, do you have the Miam Miam Do Do book, available from Amazon. Get the latest edition. It lists every albergue, pension . Casa rual and hotel on the Camino , with telephone numbers. Hope you can get sorted for your journey and best wishes Annette

In Rabanal, NS Pilar will be open but they do not take advance bookings.Triacastela had the Xunta albergue open when I stayed there on Xmas day just gone, I went for a wander and an Albergue just around the corner was open, I think it was Oribio. Have you tried looking at the list of Albergues open in winter.

Is it me or ... I really would not expect analbergue to reply to emails about reservations especially for that ti e of the year. What a pain in the behind to make 10€. If Eroski tells you they are open, then they are open. No?

Gaucelmo is indeed a great place to stay, but it will not open until March 31st, and in any case does not accept reservations [ it is first come, first served], so it may not suit the plans of walkers who prefer to book ahead.

For such a small village, there asre plenty of places in Rabanal where you can stay, just go, it will be alright.

Like someone said, it might add some thrill to your camino, the not knowing.

Same goes for o'cebreiro. And if all hope for private accomodation is gone, there is always the municipal. Plenty of beds and i bet it will not fill up in march.

In Tricastela the albergue Complexo Xacobeo is open. Nice place. I stayed there last May. In Rabanal del Camino there are two that are open now and that Jesus can book for you.

He charges 1 euro over the normal price.

Nothing to worry about. Last year during March I did not book a single albergue and never encountered a problem. These were my albergues:
Rabalnal del Camino:Alb. Nuestra Señora del Pilar - lovely and clean place to sleep and rest with a very cozy common room. Offers also a breakfast at Eur3
O Cebreiro: Alb. Xunta Xecobeo - Municipal albergue - large and clean. No breakfast.
Triacastela: Albergue de la Xunta - Municipal albergue just as you enter Triacastela, situated in an open field above a stream that had cows herding nearby. Lovely. No breakfast.
This year I shall be there during March too but 3 days after you. I intend to stay at the above albergue without any bookings made. Afterall these do not take any bookings.
