Kumano Kodo (11/2018), Camino Sanabres (4/2019)
Since our camino will take place over May 1st, I was wondering. I assume all stores are closed as I would expect on a public holiday. But what about cafés and the like? Should we make sure and get food for the whole of May 1 on April 30th?

I also assume Sellos will not be hard to come by or I'd have seen someone post about that by now.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-
Bars, Cafés and Restaurants will be open on public holidays. The Spanish People like to go out for a meal on these occasions.
You can get your sello there, too. So no problem at all.

However for May 1 which is Labor day in both France and Spain most food shops and other stores will be closed in the afternoon. The weekend before May 1 will be very busy with travelers starting off on their journey; since May 1 this year falls on a Wednesday many workers will take Monday and Tuesday off as a "bridge"/ pont/ puente/. Be prepared!

Very light, comfortable and compressible poncho. Specially designed for protection against water for any activity.

Our Atmospheric H30 poncho offers lightness and waterproofness. Easily compressible and made with our Waterproof fabric, its heat-sealed interior seams guarantee its waterproofness. Includes carrying bag.

Thanks for the warning. We'll be off from Ourense, so hopefully it won't be that packed.

...and you will have some emergency supplies, just in case, right?

Every single time I've walked I've come across a tiny village where Juan has decided to go visit his aunt, so the bar is closed today... (Does not apply on the Francés.)

Oh, absolutely, yes. I had been to Japan before doing the Kumano Kodo so I knew what to expect, but I've not been to Spain, so I'm erring on the side of (over?)caution.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

When I was living in Spain everyone would take a puente for any holiday that fell on a Tuesday or Thursday, making Wednesday the only weekday a holiday could fall on without creating a long weekend. I guess that last bastion has fallen and now it is all long weekends all the time.
