Metaphysics and Spirituality on the Camino

I found this site a few days ago, it is full with info about directions on how to get to certain places, what to pack and wear, weather conditions etc…what I am trying to say is that all the info is on the physical realm; I did not found any metaphysical info/advice. I have been preparing my self until now mentally emotionally spiritually and physically. As you see physically is the last one on my list. I am planing to start at the end of may and all I have done until now is train a bit, bought my ticket (Sydney to Munich) and reading this forum. I will buy moust of the important things in Munich. So I was thinking that I will share some technics which you can take with you and it will not take any space and weight in your backpack. I am also interested in yours, I am sure that there are many other undercover magicians in this forum …

Walking with hands free, no stick or poles. doing a form of meridian stretches and move energies similar to the ones in qigong and hand mudras from yoga. In same time focusing on the breathing making it deep and lock the lower abdominal muscles as in pilates. I will go in more detail explaining all this if any of you is interested to know more and please come with clear questions.
I will share others soon…
:D

Here is a wonderful website that might interest you.

Balsa del Camino will become a Centre for World Peace. The house at Balsa will contain a special room for meditation and contemplation that will help people to find a place of peace within themselves. The whole site is so placed as to enable people to enter a vortex of peaceful energy that will transform their awareness. They will take this with them on to Santiago and across the world.

At the entrance will be written:

Come in peace
Go in peace
With love in your heart
Your spirit replenished
To Santiago.
And we will all help translate a vision of peace in this world into three-dimensional form.

Just take a grain of salt with the Galician Rustic real estate people.

They are nice, well-informed and very organized. But a couple of summers ago they stapled and nailed publicity handbills into the trees all along one of the prettiest parts of the Camino del Norte. I confronted them about this, and was told "We have to advertise, we have a business to run and children to feed, and the pilgrims are a prime market."

I wonder if anyone who´s walked from Baamonde to Miraz lately can tell me happy news: that they didn´t see this abusive eyesore going on. I hope Mark & Co. have found a much more successful and much less damaging way to success.

I think that you will find, Laviras, that there is plenty of metaphysical advice on the threads, albeit cleverly disguised as physical preparation advice. Note, as an example, all of the packing-related posts, recommending that we look very carefully at what we are carrying, suggesting that starting out, we might not really understand what we need, and that we will soon learn that we carry more baggage with us than we should. Consider, as well, the footwear advice-- how we think so rarely and so little of the constant contact with the earth and its effect on us. Even the food conversations, which touch on those who look upon the question as one of fuel and nourishment, as well as a way of gaining contact with the place we find ourselves, are rather metaphysical in essence.

The albergue discussions instruct us on what we actually need, as opposed to what we think we need. Talking about snorers and early-morning-bag-rustlers is actually a zen-like seminar on how we learn to live in serenity with those whose irksomenesses make it difficult to be with those with whom we share a common path.

Perhaps it`s all about the journey, and all about reading between the lines.

the wheel of fortune

Pilgrimage is of all people, faiths, sferes and ages - for hunters, gatherers and smorgasbordians:

A nice new (at least to me) spiritual image: "From the 13th century onwards, the Church eventually recommended that the pilgrimage be basically spiritual; and that the body stay at peace, thereby causing the homo viator to recede in favour of another medieval image: the wheel of fortune. It was no longer man who moved; but the things around him." [homo viat: a pilgrim on a journey] http://www.turismoa.euskadi.net/conteni ... _intro.pdf

Oursonplaire, thank you, still I would like to see direct, clear information and stories, not disguised or between the lines, I understand in the inquisition times it had to be written that way but now; we are free to use our esoteric knowledge and powers openly…

Hello Laviras,
No - I am not a part of this project but I am watching its progress and will definitely visit there when it opens.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
I know what you are trying to say, Laviras; I was trying to suggest that you might not be asking the real question. An interesting compendium of thoughts can be found at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDOTJHbwRj4

Precise instructions are easy: place one foot in front of the other. Repeat. Stories? You'll hear plenty as you walk, and you'll have some of your own.

Just spend a couple of days at Eunate. An endless variety of metaphysician types flow in and out of there on a daily basis. Bring your own crystals.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
I wanted to spend a couple of days at Eunate so we ambled on down there - about 3km off the trail -took our shoes and socks off and chilled out in the arcade around the church waiting for someone to open the refuge.
At 3pm a couple of women arrived with a truckload of flowers, opened the church and she and her friends started arranging flowers in the church - there was to be an evening wedding. About 10 peregrinos hung about for an hour or so watching the proceedings until a pilgrim asked one of the ladies what time the albergue would open.
"Oh no," was the reply, "there is no hospitalero so the albergue will not open this week."
We had to put our smelly socks and shoes back on and hot-foot it to Obanos where we got the last 3 beds at the albergue.
The moral of the story?
Check that the albergue is open before you plan on spending any time there.
PS: If it is really warm, you could sleep out on the grass in the arcade. There is a tap there for water and a table and bench where you could have your cold supper.
PPS: When you look at the church take note of the many mason signs in the stones.
Love and light,

This is for those members who are into signs, stones, puzzles, enigmas... on the camino.
If any of our Spanish members have time to look at the site I would be really interested to hear what they think of it! http://www.caminoprimitivo.com/
It is full of esoteric stories of stones, labyrinths, music and legends from the five books of the "Codex of the Path of Janus" (which was once in the possession of the King of Aragon.)

It has fascinated me and although I can't read Spanish I have been doing a few google translations just to get the gist of it. I think this is what it is saying:

The path of Janus, "Callis Ianus" is thought to be the precursor of the Camino de Santiago.
Ianus means 'door' or 'portal' in Latin, and he personifies opportunity. He's depicted as a two faced God who looks in opposite directions. He is the God of new beginnings and initiations who is invoked first, before all the other Gods, in order to ensure his favor. The month of January, which inaugurates the year, is sacred to him, and his two-faced icon is placed on doors and entrances to protect homes, temples, and public buildings. In Rome, Pater Ianus is the Way Opener of the Gods, and the first to be invoked in all rituals. Ianus will open the path between the mortal world and that of the Gods. Many names are derived from the two Latin names Callis - trail and Ianus: such as Callistianus, Calixtinus, Calistiano, Calistino, Calisto and Cagliano. The written story is also depicted in the roads and the architecture of the camino.

There is an interesting article here called CODEX CALLIS IANVS (The Origin of the Camino)

When I sent this website to Peter a month ago he said:
hmm, not really my scene. Has nothing to do with our Camino Primitivo anyway!

Perhaps it has??

Of course  almost by definition!Thank you very much for these beautiful thoughts, Sil!
Today I found these  and we all know that a story doesn't have to be true to be nice :!:
