Hi everyone,
I need help from you as my partner's parents have not been in contact with us for 2 weeks now and we are starting to get worried - their names are Agnès and Paulin, a married French couple in their 50s/60s.

This is the 3rd time they are doing a Camino Frances so we are not being paranoid. They normally contact us at least once a week by email. We have had no news from them since a postcard from Logroño dated 6th June. We have had no reply to any of our text messages, calls or other emails since. They do not have Facebook, so we cannot check for updates! They should have been at León by now and may be in Astorga today.

We know that they have a preference for albergues in smaller towns rather than the big etapas. That may mean that they have no Internet access and have no idea we are worried about them. If you see them, please tell them to contact us ASAP so we can stop worrying about them. Or if you have any news about them, e.g. last time you saw them, that would be great.

Many thanks!

Good news - we have just managed to track them down - seems they are simply enjoying their camino without Internet! :)
We, like your parents, trekked the Camino Frances with only a watch and our backpacks, no other electronics. We too were trekking it with daughter and son-in-law. There were weeks without any contact, but the Camino family was always helpful in passing messages, we also left little notes when ever we signed the ledger at an alburgue. This year we bring a cellphone for the Camino apps.
Having trekked the Camino as your parents are doing wit no electronics, we can appreciate the reasoning for disconnecting albeit it can be disconcerting for family members. We are glad they are ok and you have peace of mind. :)

Buen Camino !!!! and make use of your Camino Family they are always willing to assist. ;-)

PARENTS...
What can you do with them!!!

They spend years waiting up into the early hours till the kids get home !!

Now....THEY are playing fast and loose ...
And worrying the children !!!
Good for them!!!
Best wishes
Annette

In this day of smartphones, we all tend to expect instant responses--therefore are weaker in planning, advance communications, and alternate plans.
For those of us who wish to disconnect from the pace and 'multi-tasking' that is now our day-to-day lifestyle, we should tell that in advance to our family and friends. Then they know when to worry.
People will do the Pacific Crest Trail for months with little or no access to our electronic world. But they have a known route and food drops where they can check in.
Since instant communication has now become the norm, it is incumbent on us deviating from that norm to reset everyone's expectations. Make no assumptions--as one wag said, "Assume when broken down to its component parts is '(make an) ass of you and me"
And very glad you reconnected with your parents and that they are having a buen camino.
