Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Hello ronaldw,

The trail between Montpellier and Beziers is still a work in progress, from what I gather. The blogs which I have read indicate it is doable but problematic. In 2013 I walked in the opposite direction from Carcassonne to Montpellier following canals, passing through vineyards then along roads. I didn't have a copy of the LePere guide.

ACIR are responsible for les Chemins de St Jacques in the south of France. You might contact them for advice.

An alternative trail: follow le Voie d'Arles from Montpellier to St Gervais sur Mare; from St Gervais sur Mare take the GR 78.7 to Capestang then follow le Canal du Midi to Carcassonne.

Bonne route,

GR 78.1 Capestang to Carcassonne, (not le Canal du Midi)

Accommodation:

Géoportail: Capestang https://www.geoportail.gouv.fr/carte

23/02/2018 The Tourism office, Capestang does not know if the GR 78 .1 has balisage (signs). They said to follow Le Canal du Midi. The websites above suggests that pilgrims are following the GR78.1.

Has anyone, here, hiked the GR78.1 from Capestang to Carcassonne?

Cheers

The waymarking from Montpellier to Castres is a bit patchy, and it does tend to go quite pointlessly around some village centres (taking a roundabout tarmac road instead of the one going into the pueblo that's always been on the Camino, really ??) -- but having said that, it's basically a really easy route with multiple possible variants all headed in the same direction over similar terrain on that particular section, so there's no point worrying about getting lost.

But that's the Arles Way, not the Piémont.

The Piémont is still quite sparsely waymarked.
