The Amigos do Camiño Association requests Unesco’s intervene with the Industrial Complex at O Pino
The has initiated befote the spanish comité of the Internacional Council of Monuments and Historical Places, consulting organism to Unesco, to intervene in the defense of the Camino de Santiago

The Asociacion Galega de Amigos do Camiño de Santiago has initiated proceedings before the Spanish committee of the International Council of Monuments and Historical Sites (Icomos), advisory organism of UNESCO, to intervene in the defense of the Way of Santiago, that will be affected by the project of urbanization of the industrial park at the municipality of O Pino, in the limits of Santiago and near the Lavacolla airport.

The president of the mentioned association, Jose Antonio de la Riera, described the project as "upsetting, irrational and lacking future vision", and indicated that they are not against an enterprise polygon in Or Pine, but "a good by another one cannot be replaced". De la Riera considers "incredible" that the Direccion Xeral de Patrimonio has given the approval to the project, limiting itself to apply the measures of protection of 30 meters to each side of the Jacobean way with plantation of native trees to reduce the visual impact, as well as the installation of a footbridge so that pilgrims can save one of the inner avenues of the polygon and other safety measures. The president of Friends do Camiño describes this performance as "a brutal precedent: if at the door of Santiago and in the French Way, the most protected, this can be done, what will not be able to be done in other Ways and other municipalities ".

The association requests the mediation of the Icomos because this it is the organism of the UNESCO that starts the proceedings of cultural goods Patrimony of the Humanity, title that the Way of Santiago enjoys from 1993. The Icomos recently emitted warnings to the Ministry of Public Works and the Economy with respect to the project of the highway between Burgos-Logroño, that affect to the Jacobean Route between San Juan de Ortega and the Mountain range of Atapuerca. The advisory organism indicated that the Way could be removed as Patrimony of the Humanity.
