This is a repeat of an earlier post but still most relevant.

November 1, All Saints' Day, is a holiday observed in both France (Toussaint) and Spain (Día de todos los Santos). Special masses are held. Many families travel during this time to pay homage to their dead relatives. Hence roads and transport may be extra busy.

Most businesses and services, but not all, will be closed on this day; generally a few restaurants and bars stay open. Banks and postal services will be closed.

Thus many people will be traveling at this time and hotels will be busy.

I’ve booked a 5-day ‘immersion’ language course in Malaga for w/c November 1st which has just turned into an extra-intensive immersion course as five days work has been compressed into four.

This is also a national holiday in Portugal so, if walking in Portugal at that time, be prepared.

November 1, 2022, next Tuesday, All Saints' Day, is a holiday observed in France (Toussaint), Spain (Día de todos los Santos) and Portugal ( Dia de Todos os Santos ). Special masses are held. Many families travel during this time to pay homage to their dead relatives at local cemeteries. Hence roads, transport and accommodations may be extra busy starting this coming weekend.

Most businesses and services, but not all, will be closed on the holiday; generally a few restaurants and bars stay open. Banks and postal services will be closed.

Be prepared!

Also, as the holiday is on Tuesday this year, quite a lot of organisations/people take advantage of that to "hacer el puente" or "faire le pont" - take Monday as a bridging holiday to have a really long weekend. In years when Spain's December 6th and 8th holidays fall on a Tuesday and Thursday, that can lead to the nightmare of the "macropuente".

It’s also the anniversary of the 1755 earthquake that virtually destroyed Lisbon. Mark Molesky’s This Gulf of Fire (Amazon US link) is the best account I’ve read of this triple disaster (earthquake-tsunami-firestorm) for anyone interested in reading about it.

That creates a puente as long as the one over the Rio Orbigo.
