Yes, I was up there May 26th. I followed the green alternative route in Brierley's book, round the south side of the hill.
The 'signboard' he mentions only had posters for the the election. There was a wooden finger-post with 'Monte Aro' written on it pointing along the road, the 'left turn' he mentions. A woman tried to turn us back as we passed her house, and her dogs were loose on the road hassling us a bit, telling us in Spanish we were going the wrong way. I said we were going to Monte Aro, but didn't understand her reply, and walked on. The walk unfolded as Brierley described it. We missed just one turning descending on the west side but it didn't matter.
