After a long closure for renovations and due to the pandemic, the municipal albergue in Tamarite de Litera has now reopened. Keys for the albergue are available at the local police station.

The albergue occupies part of the ground floor of a large municipal building. You need a key to enter the building and another to enter the albergue. When I was there I was the sole pilgrim and was given the set of keys and careful instructions in Spanish on how to leave the keys behind when I left to keep from being locked in. If I remember correctly after two years it was to prop open the outer door, go back to lock the inner door, drop the keys off through the inner door and then leave through the outer door, shutting it behind you and having it lock automatically.

I think it was this way because you needed the key to unlock the outer door even from the inside. I hope the renovations made this better.

When @LTfit and I stayed there, there was a group of archaeologists also staying in two of the rooms (I think there are three separate rooms). I also remember that the tienda de chinos in the town was a godsend for me, having lost my pillowcase and my sunglasses that day.

Good news about its reopening, thanks @lindam. Do you have any idea what the renovations were?

I have little information. I saw some pictures of the renovated interior and it would seem that they have painted and spruced up the place a bit. I do not know if they have added more amenities for pilgrims. I do recall that the showers there had plenty of hot water along with water pressure, making for a memorable shower after a long day's walk.
