Must haves for when in refugios

Sitting here, in a dark and wild and wet and windy England, suffering from cabin fever .. and was thinking ... what are the absolutely 'must haves' for when staying in refugios ....

hhmmm, being English, must keep up at least minimum standards, especially with so many ex-colonials being present ....
So. Silk pyjamas .... very light, marvellous insulation (can be worn as an extra lining on the Camino when cold) so closely woven that they should be bedbug proof, never need ironing .. modesty, elegance .. they are quite charming.

Soft Morroccan leather slippers, a great accessory for silk pygamas and sets the standard, don't you think?

Silk nightcap with built in flaps to cover eyes and ears .. to complete the ensemble

Now, with these three essential items one can glide almost unnoticed amongst the sweating underpant wearing hoi-polloi - and they take up just a tiny space in the butler's rucksack.

I had to google that. And when I saw them, I just had to buy a pair.
Found them on Ebay. They were lovely. Green, embroidered with sequins and pearls.

I have the black silk jim-jams and the slippers, but not the night cap. Perhaps I could use my black balaclava instead. If I dyed the slippers black, in this ensemble I would not be seen as a I went to the loo in the wee hours, and be much less disruptive to the other pilgrims :roll:

A night cap is a great idea!
I use my lightweight, but warm stretchy hiking cap.
It's amazing the difference it makes to keep your head covered!

Susanna - exactly! though the green does limit the colour choices for your silk pygamas

Doug - all black? ah Ninja Pilgrim! you could enter and leave via the rooftops!

Annie - you are almost there ... next step is matching slippers!

Fraluchi - I tend to leave the domestic arrangements to my valet, though I do insist on Twinings breakfast tea in the morning!

Mid winter blues silly season all round I see. Especially how the weather has interfered with walking lately (yes I'm a wuss). Why not save weight and take two pairs of silk jimjams instead of trousers and a base layer? Saves lots of weight and forum members will recognise you instantly, job done!

I'd say I was jealous Doug but having seen the fire and flood problems you colonials ( ) have been having I have to say I'm sorry for the plight of so many. Well winter or summer it's the same - No Camino Blues! Still I've only (ONLY-there is no such thing while waiting to go) 98 days to go. HaHa

I do not know when you plan to start the Camino.

In winter some albergues are very cold !! It may be that, instead of your nightcap, you can use this other model:

Good God man! Have you no standards! You should at least have your travelling bath and sufficient bearers to transport same, along with your steamer trunk and elephant gun..... hurrumph etc..
