Bearing in mind that I am both a "purist" and a "True Pilgrim" (quote marks entirely intended and perfectly tongue-in-cheek, including in the thread title) ...
I am now quite seriously contemplating a 4K one from home to home via Andorra, Fatima, Compostela, SJPP, Lourdes.
Also things seem to be gathering together for it, as if on their own (but of course this is God, not "magic" nor "spirituality"), and I am as bewildered as I am excited and humbled by this occasion for another beautiful stretch of Camino and Christian love in this vocation that has been thrust upon me, for and from my sins.
This will be the most overtly religious of all my Ways as I plan to organise it as a Marian Rosary (sorry James, but I of course always keep a special love for you among the Apostles of the Christ, and for your love especially back on the 1994) for penitence, confession, reparation, and prayer for an end to the present disciplinary and dogmatic crisis of disordered sexuality in Holy Church, warned against repeatedly in the last couple of centuries by so many of our seers and visionaries.
My godfather will help me finance the size 14 army boots that I'll need, and amazingly, I discovered yesterday that they will need to be custom-made -- so, custom-made size 14 army boots are incoming !!! ; if that's not a Sign that this Camino is happening, I don't know what is !!
Apart from that I have now been able to follow the carnivore diet in the past month and a half (so far) that I've been wanting to follow for, oh, about 10-12 years -- but previously couldn't either organise or afford. Except that now I have my excellent el cheapo Portuguese butcher's to help !! Steaks the size of a plate ; pork for pennies ; calve's liver even for a song !! From this alone I'm starting to feel my Camino body growing back into me inside. Though I'm of course doing my training hikes on the local Camino towards the Italian border.
My knees and ankles are still awful -- but TBH, I'm at the stage right now that if the administrative stuff I need to get done were magically in my lap tomorrow, I'd up and leave next week.
I imagine it as something between a 6-month and 8-month Camino --
I hike **nowhere** near as fast as I used to in my youth, taking me 4 hours to get a 10K done (yikes !!
), but it's enough to get a start on ...
With the Grace of God, and the love and help from Saints Mary, James, and Michael Archangel, it's happening ... and my beautiful Guardian Angel, so excellent in his particular Vocation, and for the Souls of the three poor murdered priests in the East of France so many years ago, killed for opening their homes and hospitality for strangers they did not know were bent on hatred and theft (sorry to mention these, pacem), continual prayers in my soul for them.
We the Church need a return to the proper holiness of worship and assent.
Please pray for me. Please pray for the Church.
