Need advice from those before us

Hi myself Alban 72 and my wife Roma 60 are looking at walking from Lisbon to Santiago commencing late march/early April 2019. We need advice if this time is suitable in regards to climate conditions, accommodation availability and is it a busy time or would we be mostly solo travellers. We would prefer not to be solo but also wish to avoid really busy times.

Hi Alban,

my mom and me walked from Lisbon in March/April 2014. We had some very warm und sunny days at the beginning with 26°C and more and later lots of rain and cold (12°C). So be prepared for both.

We only met three other pilgrims on the route: a French walking much longer distances than we did and a lady from Strasbourg, who joined us for a couple of days before she decided to take a rest day at Coimbra. Another Pilgrim went the opposite direction to Fatima. In Hilario´s Albergue at Mealhada my mum and me were the only guests, same in Albergaria Pinheiros at Alvaiazere. In other places we stayed in hostels or pensions (residencial or pensao) with some other guests, but no pilgrims. So it should not be too busy.

We ( my wife and I ) walked 31.3 - 5.5. 2017 from Lisbon to SDC. The weather could not be better. Only a few soft rain showers in three days. Cool wind on coastal route was lovely. No difficoulties in finding accomodations that time.

We walked in July, and often we were solo.

We did it in April, early May. It was very hot in Portugal and kept getting cooler and cooler, as it got more mountainous and as we got closer to Galicia! I did your camino last year in June. I was there during the forest fires, Three weeks of usually 37C and one week of 30C, It was great! There are very few areas that dont have a bar, cafe, stream or beach every hour. I started at 6am a few days to enjoy the morning mist and sunrise.
