My girlfriend and I are arriving in Merida on March 31th. This is a Monday, and all/most museums in the Mediterranian, including in Merida, are closed on mondays, for some unknown reason. My plea for help is as follows: Will the archeological site be closed as well?

I hope someone can help me out on this, because I so dearly want to show the Roman theatre etc. to my girlgriend. She has never been to Spain before. If not possible, I will have to extend our stay to the next day. Please help.

Oh, and I should mention: My girlfriend is heavily into Greek and Roman history, and dearly wants to see the Merida finds firsthand. We are going to Alicante on Thursday 27th, celebrating (in all quietness) my 60th birthday in Alicante, but driving to Granada, Merida, and back to Alicante before returning home. And then I will return to Barcelona and on to start my 4th Camino 2 weeks later...

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
When I was there in 2008, I was lucky to arrived at noon on Sunday (short day) and the hospiterlero told me the museum was free on Sunday. Can't remember if that extends to the forum and the ruins but it definitely cheaper on Sunday.

Alex,

The TurismoMerida web site states --
  • Teatro y Anfiteatro Romanos y Alcazaba Árabe:

However the museums are listed as closed on Monday.
