I have been looking at the forum and could not find any current information on how to make reservations at Orisson. Could someone please advise me?
Many thanks - Margie

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Hi, I am trying to make reservations for Orisson for Sept. 6. I followed the instructions, but not sure if it worked. I guess I have to be patient till tomorrow to wait for reply if any. Don't want to call now, too late. Waiting is something, I have difficulties with once in a while... :D . Ingrid

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Hi Ingrid,
I just booked with them about a week ago....it took a couple of days before they answered. We are booked in for Aug. 20th, so we may not see you on the way.

THanks Mmc.... I tend to be a bit impatient when it comes to customer service... I act immediately, just a habit.... well I guess it's a habit that will be adjusted for sure on Camino. :D

Can anyone tell me what the procedure is? The one in Roncevalles requires a wire transfer, is this the procedure for Orisson as well? I'm kind of stumped because I won't know the date for Roncevalles until I find out if there is a place to stay one night in Orisson.

can someone explain to me about orisson? I keep seeing people mention it, yet in my guide (john Brierley) it seems like he recommends first nite at Roncevalles. We will be arriving late into SJPdP, so I'm kind of thinking after flying 1/2 way across the world, we should maybe sleep for a while in St Jean, and then plan to sleep again in Orisson, before hiking a big trail jetlagged...any thoughts? but it also seems like from the posts that people r having hard time booking Orisson. If we just show up ( it will be 8/21) will there be space, or should we just plan on continuing on to Roncevalles, or somewhere in between...also while I 'm on the subject, we will need a nice, quiet place to spend the night on 8/20 after flying 18hrs..any suggestions?

The Brierley book is a guide, not a bible. There's no need to stop when/where he says in his "stages" they're just arbitrary so stop when/where you want. In fact, if it's crowded, you may find that stopping between the stages will help you find a bed as many people just follow the guide and skip the towns in between.

You have to have a reservation for Orisson so if you think you want to stop, you should contact them. I don't think anyone is having problems making reservations, it just takes longer than what you would expect from a hotel to make a reservation. Personally, I think stopping is a good idea and, if it were me, I'd spend an extra day in SJPP recovering before starting. That's a lot of stress to put on your body in a short time and I imagine you'll be happier if you give yourself a chance to work the kinks out for a day vs. rushing ahead and being tired and maybe sore from the trip.

If you decide not to stop on Orisson, there's nothing between that and Ronc so plan accordingly.

I found that I received a faster response from Refuge Orisson if I sent an e-mail directly rather than using the form on their Web site. Payment in advance for the reservation was by PayPal.

I think we will be more relaxed by staying 1 nite SJPdP, then the next Orisson, so am planning to contact them, just a question tho, on their site they mention 1/2 plan, does that mean room and the dinner? Is it better to go with the set meal? I'm thinking so, but if anyone knows, pls let me know...thx

Plan to have your dinner there in Orisson. there is nowhere else to eat. They do a very good meal and you get to meet all the other pilgrims staying there. these will most probably be the same people that you will be meeting time and time again as you walk the camino.

Buen Camino.
