Hi, I know I saw reference to new albergue in Alverca, on forum and it is mentioned in my guide book, but can't find thread now. Alverca is located in first 2 stages of CP starting Lisbon. Any updated info?
Thank you,
Janice

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
I (and a couple others) walked from the Moscavide Youth Hostel to Alverca (15.24 miles). Toward the end you're walking on a straight road and see the railroad station maybe a half km ahead. Take the crossroad to the left into town 1.3 km off course to find one of a couple of pensions. To get on that road look for the pigtail entry to the right. It took me 15 minutes to figure out how to get on that stupid road! At this point Bierley's 2015 edition map wasn't very accurate. Turn left at the gas station and walk passed the AKI (?). Pensions are on a road to the right.

Having said all of this, if there is a NEW albergue (since May 2015), I have no clue about it. :)

Hi, Steve, did you stay in a private place in Alverca? If so, do you have its name (or the names of any others you saw) because the forum guide says that there is no place to stay in Alverca. If that's wrong, it should be changed, but I can't find anything searching on the Internet.

Janice, maybe you are thinking of Alpriate, about 20 km from the cathedral. There will soon be an albergue open there, but not sure when.

There were two (at least) private pensions. The name is not noted in my journal and I can't remember. They must be in Bierley's, otherwise I wouldn't have known about it. Unfortunately I lost my guide book (and my Compostela!!) so I can't look it up. I might recognize the name if I saw it. Wait - I just looked on Google Maps, but it doesn't show enough detail. But I do recognize the 2nd roundabout (passed AKI) where you turn right. Both pensions are down that street (I think). And the gas station where you turn left is JUMBO.

Thanks, Steve, based on those comments and the JUMBO reference, I think that you are actually talking about Verdelha de Baixo, which blends right into Alverca but is a different town. Maybe not, though, so if that makes sense, let me know, because we do have Verdelha in the guide. Bom Caminho, Laurie

Looking at Google Maps again, I think it is Verdelha.

Thank you Steve and Laurie, yes it is Verdelha de Baixo. Total distance from Lisboa Cathedral = 31 km per JB guide. Back to the drawing board!

Fundação CEBI is in Alverca, but usually you have to call ahead, closed on weekends.
Anyway, phone them in advance, just in case.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

From your description it sounds like one of these - they are almost next to each other.

If there comes an albergue around there, it will be a great addition!

Hello, my friend of 50+ years and I are on our first Camino walk. We are looking for: 1) safe, comfortable hostels in Lisbon; 2) stages from Lisbon to Porto (via Tomar) in about 16 days...
